After two long years, UFC middleweight sensation Chris Weidman is set to make his return to the octagon. The aftermath of a gruesome leg snap made him witness a long break, which he never thought of. At UFC 292, Weidman would step foot inside the octagon for the first time after April 2021. Bursting into the scene, the former middleweight champion is all set to take on Brad Tavares in a middleweight bout on Saturday.

However, his injury in recent times has also been compared to that of Conor McGregor. Well, McGregor also suffered a similar injury while he battled Dustin Poirier in the third fight of their trilogy. Since then, comparisons have been made between the two. But, Weidman’s recent interview revealed how painful was the scenario after his leg snapped within 17 seconds of the fight against Uriah Hall

How painful was the entire scenario for Chris Weidman?

The 39-year-old recently spoke with ESPN, discussing the crux of his painful experience. He illuminated the experience of his recovery from that injury. However, he also shed light on what the UFC hasn’t revealed lately to the MMA world.

He said , “[MMA] was kind of the furthest thing from my mind. It was about being healthy, being able to provide for my family and be there for my kids, play with my kids. That was kind of like the main thing. So for me to be here, I’m more than grateful than ever, because I didn’t know if I was really going to be able to come back.”

Shedding light on that miserable phase, he further quoted, “It was just nonstop issues after issue. Light at the end of the tunnel, then it just disappears and no light at all. So it was just staying optimistic, taking one day at a time and not getting depressed.”

However, he shared a real bummer further. He revealed what actually happened behind the scenes after his injury that was not revealed to the fans. “You guys will actually see that angle that the UFC hasn’t shown to anybody. You’ll actually see the bones come out of my leg, the blood and all that stuff. The UFC didn’t show it because it’s pretty damn gory.” He quoted.

It is evident from his words that the injury must have been quite painful. So much so that he didn’t shilly-shally on expressing the painful experience. However, the experience was somewhat similar to that of ‘The Notorious’. But what was the history behind McGregor’s injury?

Back in UFC 257, Conor McGregor fought Dustin Poirier in a highly anticipated battle. The match was surely a hot topic of discussion since it was the third match of their trilogy. However, McGregor suffered the second consecutive loss against Poirier after witnessing a broken leg during the fight, resulting in a TKO. In fact, McGregor revealed that his problem with the leg had initiated ever since he fought his second bout against Nate Diaz.

In their rematch, which McGregor won by decision, Diaz took one of his kicks full on his knee. Since then, McGregor acknowledged having leg issues. His injury went on to become even more painful as he witnessed against Poirier. Since then, McGregor didn’t step foot inside the octagon.
