However, amidst the retirement rumors, heavyweight interim champion Tom Aspinall has attacked Jones’ legacy, slamming ‘Bones’ for “ducking” him and claiming it’s the reason for his decision to hang up his gloves, without facing him for the unification bout. Jones, who had almost made up his mind to say goodbye to the mixed martial arts world after his upcoming fight, has now been further frustrated by Aspinall’s verbal attacks. In response, Jones delivered a final blow to the controversy, shutting down his haters on X.

He wrote, “At this point in my career, every decision is rooted in purpose. My journey isn’t dictated by hype or outside opinions—it’s about crafting a legacy that speaks for itself, one step at a time. I’m here to do what’s right for my career and my legacy, with a vision that’s clear and unshakable. Focused, driven, and in complete control of myself. The story continues, and it’s unfolding exactly as I’ve envisioned.”

Now, all eyes are on Tom Aspinall to see how he will respond to Jon Jones’ bold reply. Dana White and Jon Jones change tune on potential heavyweight clash

After securing a decisive first-round victory over the formidable Sergei Pavlovich last year, Tom Aspinall ascended as the interim heavyweight champion. Since then, he has been vocal about his desire for a title unification fight against the division leader, Jon Jones, and has repeatedly urged UFC President Dana White to make it happen. However, White spent much of the year focused on the anticipated Jones vs. Stipe Miocic matchup, originally scheduled for November 2023 but postponed due to Jones’ injury.

As the fight date draws closer, both Jones and White have recently shifted their positions on earlier claims of Jones facing Aspinall. In a recent interview with TNT Sports, White discussed the potential of a Jon Jones vs. Aspinall title fight, stating, “I don’t disagree,” when asked about a possible showdown, assuming Jones wins his upcoming fight with Stipe Miocic.

In an interview with Clocked N’ Loaded, Jones confirmed that his UFC 309 fight against Miocic is likely to be his last, but added, “I’m open to it maybe being the last one.” Jones expressed his interest in fighting one more time, but not necessarily Aspinall; he is more inclined to face Alex Pereira. Jones believes a fight with ‘Poatan’ in the heavyweight division would be more suitable for his legacy.
