There is no denying the fact that former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the best fighters to ever enter the octagon. The Dagestani fighter utilized his extensive background in wrestling and combat sambo to dominate some of the biggest names in the division. Though his talent had a great role in his achievements, nobody can take the credits away from his team. Apart from his late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, one name that had a huge impact on his career is his coach, Javier Mendez.

Recently in his interview with Helen Yee, the Kickboxer-turned-coach revealed the gifts that were given by his student post-retirement from the sport. According to Mendez, Nurmagomedov financed all the expenses associated with travel and stay for his recent visit to Dubai. In his own words, the total expense of this trip was around $20,000.

The Mexican believes that ‘The Eagle’ would have given him anything else that he would have asked, but he is content with what Nurmagomedov has already done for him. This revelation was in response to Yee’s question about the craziest gift that Nurmagomedov has ever given him.

“uh whatever I wanted he would have given to me, but I didn’t, you know. He’s just like I’m good with just what he gave me. That was like twenty thousand dollars. But he had no problem doing that, you know, and I love him, he loves me. You know, we are in each other’s life for life. Our loyalty, our bond. Uh. You know it won’t be broken.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov is returning back to coaching

In the same interview with Helen, Mendez also talked about his prodigy’s recent involvement in sports. As per him, Nurmagomedov is still actively involved in the training of fighters from his country but would not likely corner anyone in the future. This is because the retired fighter wishes to spend more time with his family, the same reason he stated earlier for retiring from the sport.

However, this does not stop him from actively being part of their camps. Mendez informs that Nurmagomedov was continuously on the phone during Islam Makhachev’s fight in Australia at UFC 284. Recently, Nurmagomedov has been sharing his training pictures on social media. This might be a hint to the fighter’s involvement in combat sports. Yesterday, he shared one such training picture with the caption “July, I have to be ready (Not MMA).”
