Cody Garbrandt‘s career is shrouded in concerns – will he continue, or will this be his last fight? ‘No Love’, who defeated Dominick Cruz in what some consider the greatest performance in UFC bantamweight history, to become the divisional champion in 2016, and was once considered among the best fighters in the UFC.

The Xtreme Couture gym member, who was undefeated until the Cruz fight, has put together a record of 2-6 since then, knocking the once invincible-looking bantamweight out of the top fifteen rankings. And as he steps up to face Deiveson Figueiredo at the UFC 300 card, let us take a look at some of his losses.

After a promising early run in the UFC, Cody Garbrandt saw himself challenge Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight title in only his sixth fight under the banner. ‘No Love’ put on one of the greatest performances in UFC history to defeat the seemingly invincible Cruz by unanimous decision.

For his first title defense, he was matched up against former teammate TJ Dillashaw at UFC 217 in 2017. After a good first round, Dillashaw stopped Gardbrandt in the second round to hand him his first career loss. Given the commercial success of the first fight, ‘No Love’ was given an immediate rematch at UFC 227 next year, which turned out to be a repeat of the first fight, except Dillashaw knocked Garbrandt out in the first round instead.

His third loss came at the hands of Pedro Munhoz, who also knocked the former bantamweight champion out in the first round at UFC 235 in 2019. After knocking Raphael Assuncao out in the first round at UFC 250, the 32-year-old faced Rob Font at UFC Fight Night 118 in May 2021. Although the first round went fairly went for him, the American was outclassed by Font for the majority of the five rounds handing him his fourth career loss as the Puerto Rican won via a unanimous decision.

After this loss, he was suddenly booked at flyweight against Kai Kara-France at UFC 269 in December 2021, in hopes that a move down a weight class would give him an advantage. However, this move backfired spectacularly as the Kiwi stopped Garbrandt in the first round. However, in a huge relief to his fans, the American won his next fight against Tevin Jones earlier this year, the momentum of which he would be hoping to carry into his upcoming UFC 300 bout against Figueiredo.

A loss at UFC 300 may spell the end of Garbrandt’s career

Cody Garbrandt will take on the explosive Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 300, long after ‘No Love’ was forced to pull out of his scheduled UFC 292 bout due to injury. Although Garbrandt is only 32 years old, when most fighters are in their prime, most fans hope he will put together a good streak and retire from the sport.

There is a feeling that the skill gap between him and the new generation of fighters is too much for Garbrandt to overcome if he faces them. And while a win may not move the needle much for ‘No Love’, a loss against ‘The God of War’ could be a clear indication he should hang up his gloves for good.
