Despite being a former UFC champion, Cody Garbrandt has been on an inconsistent run lately. Plagued by injuries, the bantamweight has been struggling to maintain a winning run. However, he managed to turn the tides in his favor at UFC 285 against Trevin Jones.
Now, the 31-year-old has given some information about his next potential bout. According to Garbrandt, the UFC has offered him a rematch against former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. He also added that the promotion was aiming to book them for July.
Garbrandt put on one of the best performances of his career against Cruz in their title fight in 2016. On a night when Garbrandt looked nearly untouchable, he beat Cruz by a unanimous decision to secure the title. Unlucky for “No Love”, he is 2-5 in the UFC since that historic win.

Meanwhile, Cruz has been largely inactive since his loss to Garbrandt in 2016. He returned later in 2020 and is 2-2 in his four fights since then. Now, both fighters are seemingly on a collision course and fans had a few things to say about it.
Fans react to potential Cody Garbrandt and Dominick Cruz rematch

- Great match. Winner gets to announce his retirement first
- I wish this was a co-main for the Colby vs Leon fight so we can have the dumbest press conference imaginable
- Cruz has aged but he looked decent against Chito. Chito’s just super durable. If Cruz comes out like that against Cody, Cody is going down early. He’s just completely lost his chin. Cody probably couldn’t win a bar fight these days. It’s really sad.
- This fight makes sense. Tired of seeing these vets being thrown in with the hungry young up and comers.
- Dom coming for that chin! Ditches the neo footwork and just swang and bang
- Cody was raised to defend Dom but has spent the later years trying to reinvent himself. Actually really interested in this matchup
- If this fight happens I think Dom will f*** him up on the feet for 3 rounds. I don’t see anyway Cody wins this fight outside of a spectacular KO
- Cody shoild stay miles clear from this fight. His last preformance against him was almost perfect. What does he get out of this.
- This is a battle of who is most washed. Can’t wait to watch.
What are your thoughts on a potential rematch between Cruz and Garbrandt? Who do you think wins this time around?
