While conversing at UFC 296 media day, Covington gave his brutally honest opinion on Strickland. “Dude, can you not? All relate, I mean, that guy said women only belong in the kitchen. If you told that to my friend Candice Owens, she would literally run circles around him and make him look like the amateur jabroni that he is. I mean, that guy is the easiest fight in the division. I mean, there is a reason why he ran away from my division because he couldn’t cut it. So, you know, I’m just speaking facts.” voiced Covington.

Covington has stated that he would like to go for the triple champ status, but his reign will be difficult. Assuming that Covington defeats Edwards then he would come face to face with a number of fighters in the 170 lb. division who are waiting to take their title shot. Belal Muhammad is one of such fighters who is waiting for his chance to get his hands on the title. Covington in the UFC 296 media day asserted that he is not keen on facing Muhammad.

“No, who wants to fight a racist? I mean could you imagine if I said someone earned something off the color of their skin? That’s absolutely despicable. It’s disgusting. That guy hasn’t deserved anything. It’s not my fault he’s not a star. You have to make yourself a star. I’m the one that did the things that needed to be done to become a superstar like I have. What has he done? He hasn’t done anything.” said Covington.
