The UFC has announced a lot of fights for a few upcoming events. However, one fighter who is still in the hunt for his next challenge is Dustin Poirier. ‘The Diamond’ recently admitted to being in a strange position at this point in his career, as fans shared a few suggestions as to whom he should fight next.

Dustin Poirier has slowed down in the last couple of years. He has competed only twice in two years, against Michael Chandler in 2022 and against Justin Gaethje in 2023. Now, Poirier seems to be on the lookout for his next opponent. Let’s see what he had to say.

Despite suffering a knockout loss, ‘The Diamond’ is still one of the most exciting fighters on the UFC roster. However, his current standing in the UFC lightweight division seems to be in a precarious position. Dustin Poirier recently spoke to ‘MMA Junkie‘, where he shed light on his current status as a fighter. He said, “I am in a weird spot. It’s like my first time in this position in my whole career.”

Despite his unclear position, Poirier still believes that he is still at the top of his game and a top contender in the UFC. And when asked about maybe fighting a former opponent again in a rematch, he claimed that he might go down that route only if he gets a good feeling about it.

“[I’m] still at the top, but kind of like waiting for something big to happen… I don’t know [about rematches] but when they call with an offer and I hear the name and I feel that feeling it’s gonna be the one, I just don’t know, I haven’t heard it yet,” ‘The Diamond’ added. However, fans have played matchmakers for Poirier’s next fight on social media. Let’s take a look at their suggestions.

Who do fans want to see ‘The Diamond’ fight next?

The fans had a lot to say about who they want to see Dustin Poirier should consider fighting next. Some fans listed some of the biggest names with Conor McGregor, Colby Covington, and Nate Diaz as his potential future opponents for a showdown at UFC 300.

Meanwhile, other sets of fans want to see the former interim champion fight Mateusz Gamrot. They even called for Arman Tsarukyan to get a chance to fight ‘The Diamond’ after an impressive knockout victory over Beneil Dariush.

The fans have started to think that Dustin Poirier has become the gatekeeper of the lightweight division. Also, they believe that he might be looking to retire since he has already had an illustrious career.

Dustin Poirier mentioned during the interview that he has been busy with his ventures outside of the Octagon. As such, fans might get to see him in action only in big fights.
