Although UFC 286 packed nothing but excitement and entertained the MMA fans with finesse, Dana White seemingly rattled the world as he announced that Colby Covington might be the next fighter to go against Leon Edwards. Without a doubt, the declaration caused an uproar in the world of mixed martial arts. MMA fans and professionals took over the social media platforms and expressed their disbelief. However, a fellow UFC welterweight contender, Belal Muhammad, attracted a lot of attention after he opined to the announcement.

In a recent interview with James Lynch, ‘Chaos’ talked about the rumors concerning ‘Remember the Name’. Covington addressed his feelings about Belal’s tweet. Unquestionably, the former interim welterweight champion was disappointed at the comment. Furthermore, he believed that Belal should be removed from the MMA promotion and fined for his prejudiced comment.

The entire UFC world went was stupefied when White announced Covington as the next UFC welterweight title challenger. However, Muhammad seemingly crossed the line as he thought ‘Chaos’ got the title shot because he was ‘white’. Although the fighter was quick to delete the tweet, it was too late for him to get out of trouble.

‘Chaos’ revealed that it was nothing but fake news after Lynch asked about the rumors about the American refusing to fight Belal in London. He justified, “I’m not gonna pick some kid who’s at the very bottom of the prelims. You gotta earn your way up here. And that guy’s racist, man. He was saying that the only reason this is happening is because I’m white.”

Furthermore, Covington was seemingly disgusted at the tweet. He believed that Muhammad should be fined and removed from the UFC. He said, “That’s f**king disgusting, man. I would never say that and use someone’s color of their skin. That’s why they, that’s why they got that done. Disgusting, man! He should be literally fined and kicked out of the UFC.”

Despite Covington’s claims, another fighter with stakes in the division also disagreed with the notion that the American deserves to fight for the title next.

Just like many other personalities, the welterweight champion also believed that ‘Chaos’ shouldn’t be the next fighter in line to get a title shot. In a recent interview with the famous MMA reporter, Ariel Helwani, Edwards disclosed that Covington would not get the next title shot.

Additionally, he remembered that ‘Chaos’ refused to fight Khamzat Chimaev. He said, “I took the [Chimaev] fight and [Covington] didn’t take the fight and he’s getting rewarded for not taking the fight.”
