Colby Covington is on the cusp of becoming the UFC welterweight champion. ‘Chaos’ has gone from being nearly cut from the UFC roster at one point in his career to becoming one of the promotion’s most recognizable and certainly one of its most controversial stars.
And as he sets up to face Leon Edwards in his third attempt at the 170-pound title on December 16 at UFC 296 in Las Vegas, he is on a media tour. And the bombastic and outspoken #1 ranked welterweight made an unusual promise to UK fans in a recent interview.

Colby Covington feels Edwards disrespected UK fans
In an interview with ‘All Out Fighting’ on YouTube, Colby Covington was asked what he thought about Leon Edwards wanting to fight the winner of the upcoming middleweight bout between champion Sean Strickland and #1 ranked Dricus Du Plessis.
‘Chaos’ felt the Englishman was getting carried away with these claims since the welterweight champion still had to deal with him. The welterweight also stated Edwards was afraid of him despite the welterweight champion’s claims otherwise.
“He’s definitely getting ahead of himself (talking about fighting the middleweight champion after Sean Strickland vs. Dricus Du Plessis), you know. He’s trying to talk big and trying to talk confident but Leon deep down inside, he knows in that little brittle little body how scared of me he is,” Covington told the host.
The American also claimed Edwards had turned down the opportunity to fight him in the UK in front of his home crowd. He felt this had relegated the UFC’s last PPV card in Vegas to a Fight Night card compared to what it could have done in the champion’s home. And in a final shot at Covington, he made a bold promise to UK fans.

Covington promises first title defense in the UK
Covington was very appreciative of UK fight fans despite their unfavorable opinion of him, calling them the most electrifying fans in the world. If he wins against Edwards at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas next week, ‘Chaos’ promised that his first title defense (which would probably be a rematch against Edwards) would be in the UK.

“The UK fans are the most electrifying fans I’ve ever seen in the sports history and I appreciate the UK fans support and even the hate that they have towards me. But you know what I will promise the UK fans one thing here today that after I beat Leon Scott (sic) next weekend in Las Vegas that I’m gonna come defend that welterweight undisputed title in the UK,” he added.
