Colby Covington, the number one UFC welterweight contender, is not supporting the former double champion, Conor McGregor’s idea of competing in the welterweight division.
‘The Notorious’ has fully recovered from the leg injury he faced in his last outing and is back to training. He is eyeing a return to the UFC octagon this year. However, the Irishman has an unusual demand for his comeback fight. He wants to compete against the welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for the title.

Although McGregor has a good number in the 170lbs category, as he has a 2-1 score, the former welterweight interim champion Covington doesn’t believe McGregor will come up to the 170lbs roster.
In a recent episode of the Full Send Podcast, while talking about McGregor’s call out to Usman, Covington said, “I have heard him say that and stuff before. And I think he’s just probably trying to talk himself up and get himself hyped up. But he’s not going to come over here and fight real men in a real man’s weight class.”
“He’s a great fighter. He’s done good business for himself. And he definitely holds a lot of Ls over Dustin Poirier still. But if you’re talking about 170, that’s not his weight class” he added.

On being asked about fighting McGregor, Covington said, “I mean, I would, but he’s not gonna fight someone where he knows there’s a zero percent chance to win. Because there’s no luck factor. Like, he can’t even hit lightning in a bottle. Realistically, I beat that guy ten out of ten times. We’re talking statistics, and life’s all about numbers.”
Conor McGregor in the welterweight category
After dominating the featherweight division of UFC, ‘The Notorious’ made a jump to the 170lbs category in 2016. He fought one of the biggest names in the promotion, Nate Diaz, at UFC 196.

Unfortunately, McGregor lost the fight via submission. However, UFC scheduled a rematch between Diaz and McGregor. The fight took place at UFC 202 in the same year. And this time around, the Irishman turned the odds and secured a win against Diaz, making it 1-1 in the 170lbs division.

He then moved up again and defeated Donald Cerrone in a welterweight bout, making his score 2-1. But suffered losses again in the lightweight. That said, overall McGregor has a better record (2-1) in the welterweight division than (1-3) lightweight.
