Colby Covington Says Canelo Alvarez Is Just an Excuse for a Big Money Fight for Kamaru Usman

Welterweight’s current champion Kamaru Usman looks like an incredibly tough opponent for everyone in the division. With his latest win against Colby Covington at UFC 268, he managed to defend his title. Thus, a lot of people have been speculating on how he would fare against some of the best MMA fighters or boxers.

Usman’s manager believes that the fighter could defeat one of the greatest boxers, Canelo Alvarez. But Covington disagrees! He said that Ali Abdelaziz does not really speak the truth.

In an interview, when asked if Usman could defeat Alvarez, Covington ridiculed the possibility of it happening. He said, “It’s probably the funniest thing I’ve ever heard in my life. I mean, man, that’s just sad man. It’s not even believable. Like, come on man, like let’s talk about things in the realm of possibility and just. It’s just, I mean you’re acting like a little kid.”

“I mean, you’re just, he’s just trying to get paid. That’s I mean the bottom line. He doesn’t want to fight tough fights anymore man. He just looks, he wants to get his big money fight and just walk off in the sunset…. He doesn’t want it like I want it.”

Covington also claimed that Usman might leave the sport by next year, whereas ‘Chaos’ is getting better at the sport. He said, “… you’re probably going to see that guy leave the sport within the next year.”

The American fighter feels that he has been doing great even though he has not hit his prime yet. However, when he does hit his prime at the age of 34-35, he could pose serious difficulties for other fighters.

Colby Covington’s last fight was against Kamaru Usman, which he lost. However, Covington is not only a great fighter but also a great entertainer. His interviews are memorable for his comments and call-outs.
