The longstanding rivalry between Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal has been making headlines in UFC for a while now. However, it wasn’t always like that. From training partners to roommates, in the early days of their respective fights, they always backed one another. In fact, Covington once had an outrageous reaction to Masvidal’s unanimous decision loss by the judges.

In UFC Fight Night 63, Masvidal lost to Al Iaquinta via a unanimous decision. The win caused major controversy, as even the crowd booed at Iaquinta for his victory.

“Ladies and gentlemen, after 3 rounds, we go to the judge’s scorecard for a decision. The judges score the contest. 29-28 AI Iaquinta, 30-27 Masvidal, and 29-28 for the winner by split decision. Raging Al Iaquinta,” the announcer read.

While Masvidal ran out of the octagon after the unexpected loss, Covington, too, was visibly upset by his friend Masvidal getting robbed in the octagon.

However, their friendship didn’t last for long. If anything, they ended up fighting each other in a welterweight grudge match and even worst fighting in public.

Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal- Friends turned foes

Things erupted between Covington and Masvidal after ‘Chaos’ beat Rafael dos Anjos to win the interim belt in June 2018 while Masvidal accused him of cheating his coach Paulino Hernandez, for which he owed pay after the fight.

Both engaged in trash talks through Twitter, call-outs, and press conferences.

Eventually, they ended up fighting each other at UFC 272.

‘Chaos’ won via unanimous decision over “Gamebred”. The Feud didn’t end here though.

Covington allegedly made derogatory remarks about Masvidal’s family. As a result, Masvidal sucker-punched “Chaos” outside the hotel’s Papi Steak restaurant in Miami Beach, fracturing his teeth.
