Javier Mendez has some opinions about Colby Covington. Like it or not, Covington keeps things interesting with the way he portrays himself. Recently, the coach appeared in an interview to talk about all things fighting. He praised Covington for being his entertaining self and also decided to shoot subtle shots at another trash-talking fighter in the UFC. It’s fair to say that Khabib’s coach does not mince his words at all.

Javier Mendez praised Colby Covington

Everyone knows how much of a foul-mouth Colby Covington can be. The fighter has most recently called Islam Makhachev a lot of terrible slurs while in an interview. Fans must know that Makhachev has the same coach as Khabib did. Now, Mendez has opened up about his views about ‘Chaos.’ And he didn’t miss the opportunity to throw shade at Khabib’s arch-nemesis.

“I think another one that does it as a heel but it’s his own style,” said Mendez. “Colby Covington, he’s a heel you know and he does it right. You hate him, you don’t like him you know, you don’t like what he says but you know you want to watch him either win or you want to watch him lose. Most people, because the way he talks, I would assume most people want him to lose.”

Mendez might just be right on the money right there. The coach is no stranger to Covington’s tactics, as the fighter has often called out Khabib throughout his career. Now, he’s also after Islam Makhachev, and Mendez thinks that at least his style of talking trash has a bit more dignity than some other fighters.

“He knows how to hit the right points he really does,” continued the coach. “And I like what he does because Colby doesn’t come after country, doesn’t come after religion, you know? He comes after the fighter, and, etc etc. And he belittles the fighter in whatever way he wants. I think it’s fair game.

Any fighter you know who crosses way too many lines with his trash talk? That’s right, Mendez is probably throwing a jab at Khabib’s old rival, Conor McGregor. When ‘The Notorious’ talks, he holds nothing back and has gone past many boundaries while trying to belittle Khabib Nurmagomedov. Over him, Coach Mendez clearly likes Covington better.

What’s the Covington Vs. Makhachev drama?

Colby Covington recently said that Makhachev was “fighting little midgets ” in his division. The slur probably didn’t sit right with most Makhachev supporters, but Coach Mendez saw the showbiz behind it all. He didn’t seem uncomfortable or angry with Covington’s callouts and, in fact, was looking forward to him winning.

“He wins that fight with Leon, okay, then Islam defends against Charles (Oliviera) and then let’s see what the UFC has in store for him.”

Mendez was open to the possibility of ‘Chaos‘ taking home the victory from his fight against Leon Edwards. Once that happens, the doors to a Covington vs. Makhachev fight could certainly open up if the UFC deemed it to be. But in an equal fair fight, will Covington be able to put the bite to his bark? Looks like the wait to see that shall be long and hard. Covington will now go up against ‘Rocky’ on 16th December at UFC 296.
