Known for his relentless trash-talking, Colby Covington usually doesn’t rattle Leon Edwards‘ calm and collected demeanor. However, ‘Chaos’s statement about Edwards’s late father changed everything. UFC fighter Chris Weidman believes that, while Colby Covington’s controversial antics have garnered widespread criticism, in the long run, they may prove beneficial for fighters. Weidman has provided this assessment despite the prevailing opposition in the community. Let’s explore why Weidman holds this perspective when the majority of people in town are against it.

Chirs Weidman believes that Colby Covington’s words might help both fighters

Chris Weidman and Daniel Cormier recently had a lively chat with each other when they were live on Instagram. The duo had a conversation about multiple things, but one topic struck the attention of the fans of the sport. Weidman believes that Covington’s actions at the UFC 296 press conference will ultimately help the fighters. Covington made fun of Edward’s father, who was shot dead at a nightclub, and in response, Edwards threw a water bottle at the welterweight contender.

Cormier was baffled upon hearing Weidman’s words. ‘DC’ just outright denied any agreement with Weidman’s statement and stated that he hated the incident. Weidman then calmed the ‘DC’ and explained that he didn’t like the incident too, but he further explained why Covington might have just hit the jackpot for Edwards and himself.

“But, but how much money did they all make because of that? Khabib never has to fight again. His family, everyone around him, is taking care of their life for the rest of their life, bro. I mean, Leon Edwards, as much as that is f***ed up to say to him, he probably just made so much money because of that. He gets a percentage of the pay-per-view. Is it wrong?” said Weidman.

In the end, Cormier was totally surprised by the observation by Weidman and agreed with him. It is no joke that Covington’s statement has increased the anticipation for the fight even more now. The fans are just waiting for the event to unfold. So was the Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov example given by Weidman legit? Let us find out.

Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s paycheck after their fight

Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s rivalry is probably one of the best things to have ever happened to the UFC economically. Their rivalry set the stage for new upcoming rivalries in the UFC. McGregor, in his bid to make the match more interesting, targeted not only Nurmagomedov but also his father Adbulmanap Nurmagomedov, and his religion. The outcome of the match is known to everyone but what’s unknown is the amount of money both the fighters made from their fight.

The fight happened at UFC 229 and it gathered a whooping Texas-sized $86.4 million in economic output. According to reports, McGregor left the bout without securing a championship title, yet he pocketed a substantial sum of $28,480,000, despite his initial assertion of earning $50 million in the match against Nurmagomedov. On the other hand, ‘Eagle’ got $6,640,000 (including his base salary of $2 million) that night.
