Mateusz Gamrot has a fight lined up this weekend, and it seems he is determined not to leave any stone unturned in his preparation. As the Polish standout gears up for his co-main event clash with Ľudovít Klein at UFC Vegas 107, he’s training with the former interim champion Dustin Poirier. On Monday, Mateusz Gamrot joined The Ariel Helwani Show to promote his upcoming fight, but it wasn’t the matchup that had fans talking. Instead, all eyes were on the massive black eye he was sporting.

When asked about the visible damage, Gamrot brushed it off with a grin: Just a normal day in the ATT office,” he said casually. He further added, “Light sparring with Dustin this morning. Everything is fine. I’m just scratched and a little bit swollen. I feel great. I feel amazing.”

Still, despite his reassurances, not everyone was convinced that things were running smoothly for Gamrot heading into UFC Vegas 107. Knockout Alerts took to their Instagram account to share a picture of a bruised Gamrot with a caption that read, “Safe to say #MateuszGamrot had a rough camp 😳 He’s fighting Ludovit Klein on May 31st…”

However, it seems that the 34-year-old is not quite bothered about all the damage he is taking during the sparring sessions. He took to his Instagram account to share a picture after his sparring session with ‘The Diamond’. The caption read, “What a rounds today 🔥 getting closer to the fight🥷 thank you Guys !!#att #ufc #war’.”

Dustin Poirier has also begun his preparation for the final fight of his career against Max Holloway at UFC 318 for the BMF title. The heavy-hitting Louisiana native has already linked up with his elite training squad in Coconut Creek, Florida. After spending some time in California for an early training stint, he has made a quick stop back home before hitting the road once more.

Now, with camp about to ramp up, he’ll be reuniting with renowned coach Mike Brown—and possibly crossing paths with fellow lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot as well. However, it didn’t take long for photos of Mateusz Gamrot’s battered face to make the rounds on social media. Fans were quick to react, with many voicing concern over what looked like a rough sparring session, courtesy of his teammate Dustin Poirier. Let us take a look at what they had to say.

Fans feel Mateusz Gamrot was tested during his sparring session with Poirier

Their recent sparring session, which left Gamrot visibly bruised, speaks volumes about the intensity of their training. It’s not just light drills—they’re pushing each other at the highest level, sharpening tools ahead of key matchups. Poirier is deep into preparations for his next and final bout, and working with someone like Gamrot adds a new layer to his camp, especially in terms of takedown defense and scrambles. For Gamrot, getting rounds in with a seasoned striker like Poirier is equally valuable. It forces him to deal with high-level striking pressure and test his ability to close distance and control the pace of the fight.

But the fans felt a bit different. One user reacted to the appearance of Gamrot’s injuries and exaggerated the damage by comparing it to burn wounds. It’s more of a shock-value remark, highlighting how rough the sparring session must’ve been, and commented, “Did dude get burnt” A more straightforward comment came from a fan who pointed out that Gamrot himself addressed the situation by revealing he had been in an intense sparring session with UFC star Dustin Poirier, “He confirmed it was rough sparring with Dustin Poirier”

One fan downplayed the damage ironically, as the visible injuries clearly suggest Poirier did more than just lightly connect. He commented, “Looks like Dustin Poirier touched him in sparring”  Despite the concern over his appearance, one fan is confident that the injury won’t affect Gamrot’s performance in the upcoming fight, and he commented, “He’ll be fine” Another user exaggerated his comment comparing his facial injuries to burns. It’s likely not meant to be taken literally but used to emphasize how bad the swelling and abrasions looked as he said, “Looks like a burns victim.”

One fan brushed off the injury entirely and made a bold prediction—that Gamrot will not only fight hard but finish Ľudovít Klein by TKO in the second round. He commented, “He’s gonna beat Klein by TKO 2 round” Another user predicted Gamrot as the winner for his upcoming fight and commented, “He’s gonna work Klein.”

Together, these comments capture a mix of humor, concern, and unwavering belief in Gamrot’s fighting abilities—a typical example of the passionate and often blunt MMA fanbase. But what do you think about Gamrot and his sparring session with Poirier? Will it help him in his upcoming fight? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
