Are the UFC and Conor McGregor cross with each other? Some fans certainly seem to think so, especially after the promotion supposedly took a sly dig at the Irishman on his birthday. The former double champion turned 35 on July 14 and has been showing off the wishes and celebrations on social media. Amid the festivities, the UFC’s official YouTube channel had a painful reminder for ‘The Notorious.’ They uploaded the rematch between McGregor and his rival Dustin Poirier from UFC 257 as a ‘Free Fight’ in the lead-up to UFC 291.

Poirier is currently preparing to take on fellow lightweight Justin Gaethje. The pair will lock horns at UFC 291 for the vacant BMF belt. The bout is set to take place on July 29 at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. As the date for the clash edges closer, the promotion thought it best to give fans a look back at Poirier’s statement win over McGregor.
However, the timing of the post from the promotion has left fans scratching their heads. Despite announcing his return earlier this year, McGregor is yet to have a date for his fight. The promotion and prospective opponent Michael Chandler are all waiting on the Irishman’s USADA situation to clear up. But are they losing patience with him?
Fans suspect foul play from the UFC against Conor McGregor on his birthday
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier first fought at UFC 178 in 2014, and McGregor won the bout via a first-round TKO. The stakes were much higher when the pair met in the octagon seven years later at UFC 257, in January 2021. This time, Poirier knocked out McGregor in the second round of their clash.

In the comments under a Reddit post mentioning this ‘Free Fight’, fans debated the UFC’s intentions behind the post. Following are some of their reactions:
- “Aww Conor and Dana are probably fighting”
- “This type of petty power move is most certainly the work of Dana White”
- “All the coddling of their cash cow has finally taken a turn.”
- “Is this the more satisfying a*s whooping or the Khabib one for you guys?”
- “I’m sure the guys running the YouTube channel knew what they were doing”
- “His poor little leg… Didn’t stand a chance”
- “If you genuinely think this guy is ever going to fight again you are just as dense as he is Imao“
