Chael Sonnen and Conor McGregor are some of the best trash talkers in the MMA world. They have some of the most memorable comebacks. Naturally, fans find it amusing when the two bicker amongst themselves. In fact, Sonnen and McGregor have targeted each other on social media. It started with Sonnen calling McGregor a “little rich weirdo”. The Irish fighter, of course, hit right back.

In a recent conversation with Ariel Helwani, Sonnen spoke about his back and forth with McGregor. The retired UFC fighter had some interesting things to say.

Sonnen said, “I’m not ready to admit it. I think that Conor looks up to me. I treat Conor like he’s a little brother, and I think he looks up to me. I could be a fool if he does not think ‘okay Chael was my mentor at some point’ at some point in his career… And that is an option that’s on the table.”

He further spoke about how he told McGregor to stop taking shots at him and ‘The Notorious’ complied. Sonnen took that as a sign of respect. He said, “I took that as a sign of respect. Maybe he just has other things to do and didn’t even know I said that… I’m going to need to talk to Conor and see where we stand because if there’s a fight going on here, I’m going to fight back.”

Sonnen admitted to being irritated by the comments McGregor made publically. He has thick skin, but because of his relationship with ‘The Notorious’, the comments bothered him. Previously, the former UFC fighter had defended McGregor during his dispute with Dustin Poirier. Hence, Sonnen might have not liked the Irish fighter targeting him.

Chael Sonnen and Conor McGregor’s dispute

Their back-and-forth arguments on Twitter stirred up the MMA world, but Sonnen thinks of McGregor as his brother. This is not the first time he has called Conor McGregor, his little brother. He has been referring to McGregor as his little brother for a while. Also, ‘The American Gangster’ feels he is the younger fighter’s biggest defender and that he had a hand in creating his career.
