It will exactly be two years, 11 months, and 18 days when Conor McGregor finally steps back inside the Octagon, in what will arguably be the biggest comeback in combat sports history. However, former UFC fighter and the promotion’s insider Chael Sonnen believes McGregor will find it hard to make his return the greatest comeback and register a win over Michael Chandler.

After a year of speculation as to when Conor McGregor would return, Dana White finally confirmed the date, which appeared to align with the announcement that the Irishman made on New Year’s Eve, June 29 at UFC 303. In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, Chael Sonnen mentioned that not many fighters can go toe-to-toe with Conor McGregor when it comes to having charisma. ‘The American Gangster’ claimed that the former Bellator champion is the only fighter, among all that ‘The Notorious’ has faced so far, to be able to garner the support of fans.

“Chandler wants something that if everybody that’s ever faced McGregor, only Chandler is capable of getting, which is the fans… Chandler offers something different,” said Chael Sonnen. He had emphasized earlier on the fact that Conor McGregor was returning to action in a five-round fight. He felt that it may not be wise to do that since he’s returning after a serious leg injury. Given that Dana White did not oblige on giving his biggest star a shorter fight, he even pitted him against a former MMA champion, which was not the case for Anderson Silva, and most recently, Chris Weidman.

“Conor McGregor is now going to walk in those same shoes, but he’s going to do it against a very difficult opponent. Neither Anderson [Silva] nor Chris [Weidman] had to return against a former champion,” the UFC Hall of Fame Inductee further stated. Also, he pointed out the fact that Michael Chandler has been urging people to tune in to the fight because it could be the former double champion’s last fight.

“It’s a lot that Conor’s biting off here and Chandler has now announced and asked you all to buy the fight. ‘Please buy the fight. Not for me. I don’t wanna take this from you. I know Conor’s popular, but I am going to retire him,'” Sonnen added. Despite what people believe his return will turn out to be, Conor McGregor already has a prediction of how he thinks the fight against Chandler will end.

The Irishman spoke about a wide range of topics, including his Hollywood debut. But when the topic of his comeback fight popped up, the former double champion, just like in his ‘Mystic Mac’ days, gave the host a prediction and mentioned the exact move he would use to knock out Michael Chandler like he’s done to his former opponents in the past.

“I am ‘Terminator’ now. I have a titanium rod that goes into the knee and down to the bone, right down to my ankle. It’s unbreakable, so I have free rein to kick now, so I’m ready to go and I’m excited. I wish for and I will work for landing this kick with this steel bar in my leg against an opponent and getting them out of there,” Conor McGregor stated, intending to use his metal-fitted leg to win the fight against Michael Chandler.
