The negotiators reached an official agreement: this Sunday, January 19, the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas will come into force, as announced by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Doha and Joe Biden in Washington. Now that this major feat of peace has been achieved, Conor McGregor has a new request: to stop the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

After more than a year, the agreement is reached after months of negotiations with Egypt, Qatar, and the United States as intermediaries, and just before Donald Trump takes office as President of the United States next Monday, January 20. Taking to his Instagram, McGregor shared a tweet of the announcement of the ceasefire and added his quote, “God is great! Russia – Ukraine next! WORLD PEACE 2025!”

Years after being rivals with Khabib Nurmagomedov and being an active part of the Dagestan-Irish MMA debate, ‘The Notorious’ now wants the country and its civilians to finally find peace following a conflict that began in 1991 after Ukraine gained independence. It is worth noting that Marco Rubio, Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of state, recently called for “bold diplomacy” to end Russia’s conflict in Ukraine. At his Senate confirmation hearing, he stated that while Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade was unacceptable in his opinion, there is no denying the fact that this war must come to an end.

Rubio further demanded that Moscow and Kiev make “concessions,” as Ukraine’s main problem is not that it has run out of money, but that it has run out of Ukrainians. So, maybe, Conor McGregor’s wish will come true in a few months. However, it is worth noting that the Irishman too, shares a good rapport with Vladimir Putin.

Conor McGregor’s bond with the Russian President

Conor McGregor and Vladimir Putin have a good relationship after the Russian president invited McGregor to the 2018 World Cup final in Russia. It is a strange and unlikely relationship, but one that has happened. After the Irishman and Putin met for the first time in 2018, ‘The Notorious’ was all praise for the Russian president.

Taking to his Twitter (now X) account, he wrote, “Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honored to attend such a landmark event alongside him. Today was an honor for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup. Go Russia!” A year after that meeting, McGregor revealed that on the same day, he gave Putin a gift.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Conor McGregor's friendship with Putin really pave the way for peace between Russia and Ukraine?

Have an interesting take?

At a press conference in Moscow, the Irishman said that the first bottle of “Proper Twelve” whiskey created by his company was delivered to the president. A gift that did not go unnoticed, since the president’s security had to check that it was not any liquid that posed a threat. But we’re pretty sure that President Putin does not see McGregor as a threat, so possibly the Irishman can help pass the message of peace between the two nations in the coming days. What do you think? Do you believe the Irishman can implore the Russian president to stop the conflict? Let us know in the comments.
