Coming off a knockout loss against Just͏in Gaethje was tough for Poirier. ‘The Diamond’ asserted that he would consider retirement if he lost to Denis, but it seems like Poirier is not ready to ͏leave MMA just yet. His knockout victory has garnered love and ͏appreciation from the MMA community, and this includes praise from a former rival.

Dustin Poirier got love from former arch-rival

There was a bit of concern when Dustin Poirier entered the arena. In the initial round, Saint-Denis seems to have overpowered Poirier with body blows and elbows. ‘Diamond’ even attempted a guillotine choke on him but failed in his attempt. The ‘God Of War’ even clinched the first round convincingly.

The pressure was now on the ‘Diamond’ to turn the match in his favor, and he certainly did. Dustin Poirier knocked out, Saint-denis in the second round with more than 2 minutes remaining. The impressive striking got the attention of former dual weight champion and Poirier’s former rival Conor McGregor. ‘Mystic Mac’ took to his X (Formerly Twitter) handle to let go of their rivalry and appreciate Poirier. He said “Great fight out of them French boys tonight! Toutes nos félicitations.”

Poirier’s cheeky response to Conor McGregor’s tweet

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier’s rivalry is old. Both of these individuals started their career way back in 2014 and since then have made a name for themselves. The duo fought thrice in their career and Poirier has won twice. Their last bout was back in 2021 at UFC 264. McGregor was brutally injured in that match and the impact of that leg injury is still evident today.
