The heavyweight title unification fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall may be in a place of uncertainty, but what’s more uncertain is Conor McGregor making his way back to the UFC. It was about to materialize last year at UFC 303, but the plans fell through once again after he suffered a toe injury. But guess what? The Irishman continues to tease a potential comeback through his social media handles.

Conor McGregor shared yet another training video footage on his social media handles, giving hope to the fans once again that maybe his career wasn’t over. What’s more interesting is the fact that ‘The Notorious’ looked pretty good and sharp, which makes us wonder even more if he really means it this time. While we wait to see what happens, American Top Team’s coach Marcos Parrumpa DaMatta reminisced about McGregor’s UFC career during his prime years.

The former UFC double champion is arguably one of the greatest trash-talkers, not only in MMA but in combat sports history. People wanted to hear what he had to say whenever he took the microphone. For his opponent, though, they’d find themselves engaged in a mental warfare, which would ultimately prove detrimental for them, as Conor McGregor would get his rivals emotionally charged and defeat them, just like he did to Hall of Famer Jose Aldo.

“I was impressed by what he said about Aldo. I’m going to do this at the weigh-in, and I’m going to see his reaction. Then he did it. The first thing Aldo did was this. I’m going to do exactly what I said I was going to do,” The ATT coach stated on the Overdogs Brasil podcast. “I’m going to punch him, he’s going to come at me with everything he’s got, wanting to kill me. With his chin up, I’m going to knock him out. Exactly what happened. Why? Because he drives people crazy, but when he gets in the cage… All that stuff is over.” (via Google Translate)

Moreover, DaMatta also claimed that he doesn’t have any issues with the way the current version of Conor McGregor has turned out. But he cherishes witnessing the ‘old’ version of him in action, whether on the mic or inside the Octagon. “He’s cold, he’s calculating, he doesn’t waste a blow. I’m talking about an old-school McGregor. He wasn’t a modern-day brawler, no. You understand? Which is also good, but as old-school, it doesn’t exist,” the ATT coach added.

Meanwhile, the increasing number of training footage does give us hope that McGregor could indeed make his return. However, he seems to have a condition for a UFC fight. Let’s take a look at that front.

Conor McGregor and his condition for a UFC return

After claiming that he was “happy” with the career he had in Dana White’s promotion, hinting that he might be hanging up his fighting gloves for good, Conor McGregor appeared to take a sharp new turn. After Michael Chandler‘s lackluster outing at UFC 314, where he’d get finished by Paddy Pimblett in the second round, it re-ignited the Irishman’s wish to fight the former 3-time Bellator champion.

Conor McGregor let the whole world know that the only condition he had for making a comeback was to take care of the “unfinished business” he had with Michael Chandler. After all, ‘Iron Mike’ waited two years to see this fight materialize and has called out the former double champion after many of his UFC fights. Chandler even found himself calling out McGregor on WWE’s Monday Night Raw, which was really unexpected.

However, it begs the question about what Dana White is thinking when it comes to Conor McGregor. There is always big money involved when the Irishman is fighting inside the Octagon, so for many, it’s a no-brainer to bring him back. But then again, McGregor has his own ambitions outside of the Octagon at the moment, with becoming the President of Ireland topping that list. What do you think? Drop your comments below.
