Earlier in August, when UFC head honcho Dana White announced the fight cards for UFC 306 and UFC 308 back-to-back, it left the future of UFC 307 seemingly hanging without any announcements, leading to backlash from the MMA community. No one ever thought that it would be such a stellar experience for the fight fans, especially with its thrilling headline event.

UFC’s latest outing in Salt Lake City saw Light Heavyweight King Alex Pereira successfully knock down Khalil Rountree Jr. after a gruesome toe-to-toe battle. Rountree Jr. gave ‘Poatan’ one of the toughest competitions of his life, impressing UFC superstar Conor McGregor, who had placed a substantial amount of money on the Brazilian and received great returns.

Now, hours after the conclusion of the fight, ‘Mystic Mac’ who is currently looking for an opponent and date to return to the octagon, came forward praising the UFC and both Pereira and Rountree Jr. for their performances, stating, “That was real fighting in the @UFC main event last night. Never settle for that other bullshit, @UFC fans! Never! Bravo Khalil and Alex! REAL.”

Many fans may not be aware of the rumor revealed by renowned journalist Ariel Helwani back in August, which claimed that this UFC fight card was initially scheduled to feature a battle between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway, while Islam Makhachev was set to face Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 308. However, just like dominoes falling, Dana White and his team’s plans collapsed, allowing Alex Pereira and Khalil Rountree Jr. to find their spot on the UFC 307 card.

Now that the fight has unfolded, there is intriguing speculation about what Alex Pereira’s next move will be. Will he drop down to middleweight, move up to heavyweight, or remain in his current division? For that, you’ll need to scroll down further.

Alex Pereira opens up about his future in the UFC

Alex Pereira, along with his light heavyweight division opponents, now poses a greater risk to fighters in both the middleweight and heavyweight divisions. This became evident back in the summer when ‘Poatan’, after defending his title for the second time, first opened up about his desire to move into the heavyweight division to face its king, whether it would be Jon Jones or Tom Aspinall. However, a few months later, Pereira retracted his earlier statement after witnessing Dricus du Plessis’s successful first title defense against Israel Adesanya.

Despite this, Pereira seems to be sticking to his earlier thoughts about moving to heavyweight, as he recently revealed in a post-fight interview, claiming, “I can move up to heavyweight, but this situation is great. I feel great with this [205-pound] weight cut, and this is where I’m at.”

However, Conor McGregor does not appear to be pleased with Pereira’s decision, as he has already disclosed his intention to see “Pereira vs. Bones” square off in the octagon. Just like the fans, ‘The Notorious One’ also wants to see the Brazilian move up, and he decided to push Pereira himself, claiming through a video he posted, “Heavyweight, don’t lie to yourself. That was a heavy [weight] cut.”
