‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was set to defend his welterweight gold for the sixth time in his UFC career against the British fighter Leon Edwards. The pay-per-view took place inside the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, today.

It is interesting to note that Usman had already defeated Edwards back in 2015. However, in the rematch, he couldn’t repeat the same. ‘Rocky’ took advantage of Usman’s minor mistake and knocked him out cold in the fifth round of the fight.

The Nigerian-born fighter’s loss came as a shock to many people as he dominated most of the early rounds. Fans and UFC fighters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the result of the fight.

Former UFC lightweight champion McGregor was one of them. ‘The Notorious’ lauded the sports and also congratulated the new welterweight champion.

“Just like that, baby, what a game! Huge congrats @ParadigmSports and Leon Edwards! ANOTHER CHAMPION!” McGregor wrote. A few minutes later, in another tweet, the Irish star mocked the former champion.

Usman gonna come out saying he from Pluto after that smack hahah Marty green pants from Pluto McGregor wrote. Further on, the former UFC dual champion posted a thread of tweets taking a dig at Usman for his loss.

The rivalry between Conor McGregor and Kamaru Usman

‘The Notorious’ taking a shot at ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ isn’t new. The former lightweight champion has exchanged verbal jabs with the Nigerian in the past too.

When the Irish star was recovering from his leg injury, he expressed his interest in fighting the number one pound-for-pound fighter, Usman. Because he wanted to become the first fighter to hold titles in three divisions.
