Conor McGregor could challenge Charles Oliveira after Justin Gaethje

Meanwhile, in the lightweight division, his chances for fighting for the title eclipsed when the originally scheduled pivotal matchup, between Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev, in the main event of this weekend fell apart.

One of the toughest divisions in the UFC doesn’t have a clear-cut number one contender after Charles Oliveira fights Justin Gaethje. Apart from Islam Makhachev, most of the fighters are either on a losing streak, have injuries, or already fought for the UFC gold in recent times.

Even though Makhachev has the longest winning streak in the division apart from the champion himself, he still has a lot to prove in the lightweight division against the top five fighters. On paper, beating an unranked Bobby Green shouldn’t warrant him a title opportunity.

Thus, if Charles Oliveira continues his win streak at UFC 274, he would look to cash the opportunity against Conor McGregor. With the bout having a natural ‘McGregor vs Brazil 2’ flavor, it would be a massive event at the box office.
