Amidst all the comeback buzz, Conor McGregor shared an update with his fans, recalling his near-death experience last year. This happened, right before the former UFC double champion took up the mantle of a coach at TUF 31 against Michael Chandler. An Instagram account named ‘themmastory’ recently reshared the video, showing the bike accident stirring back the conversation.

McGregor had his bike smashed by a sun-blinded motorist. Therein, the former champion’s bicycle was lying on the road with a few parts spluttered around. In the video, talking to the car’s driver, although McGregor assured him that it was alright, given the damages were minimal, the fear in his voice was palpable. “That’s nasty, that’s f***ing, I could have been dead there, mate look. Jesus Christ. I got away with my life there, boys,” he exclaimed. And now almost reminiscing what had happened McGregor took to IG stories and shared a video of his bike. The fighter wrote in his story, “Still haven’t gone back out on my bike after this.”

Thereafter, the fighter hopped into the car that rammed him, since he had his bicycle destroyed. While in the car, McGregor thanked the Almighty, claiming it simply wasn’t his time. Regardless, the event didn’t leave the mixed martial artist without trauma. This incident also saw McGregor garner reactions from both his fellow fighters and fans alike. From then fanboy ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley, and Chael Sonnen to Henry Cejudo, here’s what they had to say.

Cejudo didn’t falter from taking shots at the former champ. He took to X and tweeted, “Glad you are ok. Heard you were on a bike because you ran out of gas.” But O’Malley had imagined a different outcome altogether. On his talk show, the bantamweight champ said, “it sounds like I think he’s had a little scratch on his butt but I wonder if that you know that could have been a life-changing moment that could be like holy imagine we wake up and it was Conor McGregor dies got ran over by a car that would be crazy yeah that would be insane.

Nevertheless, Sonnen stood to support McGregor. On his YouTube talk show, the ‘American Gangster’ commended the Irishman’s empathetic nature. He pointed out that the car driver was more scared and worried than McGregor. It was indeed one of the best ways the fighter could have handled the situation. Although Mystic Mac thankfully escaped unharmed, he wasn’t quite that lucky with another.

Conor McGregor overcoming the leg injury

Alongside McGregor, Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva suffered a high-profile leg injury in recent years. However, seemingly only  McGregor is the one who has handled the setback in the best possible way. Silva and Weidman have witnessed a change in their fighting forms, with Silva opting to box instead. But when McGregor’s return was finally confirmed at the post-fight presser for UFC 300, Weidman came forward with some advice.

Weidman sent a message to the ‘Mystic Mac’ advising him to focus his practice on kicking back. He further acknowledged the psychological factor associated with such an injury: “So you need to really get that habit back strong and focus on that.”

John Kavanagh also hopped in to talk about the fighter’s recovery. The coach stated that McGregor’s techniques were still perfect. All that needed to be done was enhance the conditioning and increase stamina. Without a doubt, with the support he has, McGregor is now ready to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303. But what would happen in the fight is something that only time can tell. But one thing is certain, things are sure to go rough in the Octagon, don’t you think?
