Chiefly, megastar Conor McGregor has been in the headlines following elaborate call-outs, exhibition matches, and leaked messages with Dana White. ‘The Notorious’ most recently called out former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier to an exhibition fight for charity in Dublin, Ireland.

UFC President Dana White hasn’t been too happy with Conor as of late after the Irishman leaked their private conversations on Twitter. Moreover, this led to speculation that a fight between McGregor and Poirier wouldn’t be on the cards.

Conor McGregor adds fuel to the fire

Conor McGregor released a poster for the exhibition bout, and fans saw it as a way for him to thumb his finger at White’s face. The general consensus was that the poster was a force on the hand of the long-time UFC boss. However, it appears that White is more than happy to play along and try to assemble a fight.

Dana White spoke out on Barstool sports and confirmed that he had offered a fight to both the aforementioned fighters. Moreover, he added that he was simply waiting on the fighters for their response. It surprised the MMA community as a whole that the decision to make the fight saw the green light.

Dustin Poirier took to social media not long after and provided confirmation on the fact that he would scrap. The Lafayette native has a loss against McGregor from earlier in his career stained on his record. He will be keen to make it right several years after their first meeting. Despite having significantly enhanced his reputation, a fight against ‘Notorious’ will boost his profile even further.

It is safe to say that ‘The Notorious’ is back in the swing of things in the 155-pound division. The former two-division champion has called his way to several high-profile fights. Not to mention, he has strived to secure a booking against boxing legend Manny Pacquiao for early 2021. Time will be the only indicator of Conor McGregor’s future in combat sports. Since his retirement, a fight against Poirier has caught the most steam as fans are desperate to see him return.
