Conor McGregor loves the 185-pound belt

Conor McGregor is perhaps the best at selling fights. Maybe it’s because he starts selling one before it even happens. Like now, he’s promoting his potential Michael Chandler bout by leaving cryptic messages in the form of praise for UFC 297’s main event, Sean Strickland vs Dricus Du Plessis.

“One hell of a main event fight and card lined up for the fans this Saturday! USA Vs SA for the middleweight gold, live from Canada. Forever a coveted title, the 185lb @ufc belt. On a roll with back to back to back mega events now right through the summer we are! Let’s go @ufc,” Mystic Mac noted in an X post.

Clearly, the fighter has some things cooking with Dana White. All of this after McGregor announced his bout with Michael Chandler at middleweight on June 29th. Now, the speculation begins. Will he fight Chandler soon then, or is it yet another illusion?

It’s a common theme now. Fans aren’t quite sold on the idea that McGregor will return soon and will fight Chandler for good. And they have good reasons to. There is no contract, Dana White is oddly quiet about it all, and McGregor is called ‘The Notorious’ for a reason. Could he be tricking everyone?

Conor McGregor first told the MMA world he’d return sometime in 2023. However, his stint with the USADA that ultimately caused the organization’s exit clarified everything. His samples had not been tested for him to return in 2023 any time soon.

Rumors then started flying about him returning at UFC 300. However, McGregor would soon take digs at the UFC for not giving him a fight while the truth was, that his samples were still being tested and it may be too early to let him into the cage. He then beefed with boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and then, he announced his middleweight fight with Chandler.

So, what can the fans believe? We leave it for you to decide.
