Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz gave the UFC fans two of the most entertaining showdowns inside the octagon. However, the proceeding of their first meeting was a tougher task than many would’ve expected.
During that time, the Irishman was making all the noise. In his interview on the ‘Conon on TBS’ show, McGregor talked about how the fight with Nate Diaz had some hurdles.

McGregor said, “Diaz was the only one that engage in the conversation. But even then, he was still looking for his ways. He wasn’t happy with the money. So, we resolved the money issue.”
“Then he said he couldn’t make the weight. He could only make 160 pounds, we agreed to that, then he came back again and said I can only make 165 pounds, and then I said, ‘Relax. Get comfortable. Put your feet up. You can weigh in 170 pounds on the scales.’”
“The weight means no difference to me, I’m still gonna slap the head off him. So, I just need the man to show up.”

Nate Diaz took the fight on short notice after a broken foot forced Rafael dos Anjos, UFC lightweight champion at the time, to pull out of the main event of UFC 196.

Nate Diaz’s call out of Conor McGregor secured him the fight
Nate Diaz followed the footstep of his brother in the UFC and got the shine of already established Nick Diaz when he arrived in the UFC. However, Diaz was not able to breakthrough in the same way as his big brother. He was headlining the UFC Fight Night cards but was yet to find similar success as Nick Diaz.

However, after his definitive performance against Michael Johnson at UFC on FOX 17, Diaz startled the world with one of the most iconic call-outs in the UFC. This call-out proved to work as the catalyst for his booking against Conor McGregor at UFC 196.

In the main event of UFC 196, both fighters gave an epic performance. After a tough first round, Diaz came back in the second and rocked McGregor on the feet. Diaz went on to hand Conor McGregor the first loss of his UFC career. Diaz won the fight via submission (rear-naked choke) in the second round.
