In the previous edition of the BKFC docuseries, Mike Perry was the central figure. The Deep Cuts by BKFC, released in 2022, showcased ‘Platinum’s journey as a bare-knuckle fighter ahead of his clash with Luke Rockhold. This time, company president David Feldman announced that Wahlberg would be involved in their future project, and hearing that, Perry couldn’t hold back his excitement.

For the unversed, Mark Wahlberg is an Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning actor. Over his long Hollywood career, Wahlberg has starred in several iconic films like The Perfect Storm (2000), Planet of the Apes (2001), and The Italian Job (2003), to name a few. So, with that level of storytelling prowess, BKFC’s next edition of its docuseries is already looking promising. However, it’s still unclear how the award-winning actor will contribute.

Frankie Edgar takes a shot at McGregor’s promotion for canceled fight
Managing a business, especially the fight business, can be a tough job sometimes. That seems to be the case when BKFC tried to book former UFC 155 lbs champ Frankie Edgar against Jimmy Rivera for their Newark, New Jersey card. With that matchup, Conor McGregor’s promotion could’ve hit a jackpot, especially after recently adding Yoel Romero and Thiago Silva to the roster. But ahead of the event, the fight got canceled. And now Edgar has revealed that the reason was a bit dodgy. Apparently, BKFC’s doctor didn’t clear him to fight because of his previous knockout losses.
At the Champ and The Tramp podcast, ‘The Answer’ said, “I was training for six, seven weeks, I got a week out from the fight, and we get an e-mail, my manager gets an e-mail from someone from BKFC stating that the owner of BKFC is leaving for Manchester and he doesn’t have a phone on him. He can’t call you, but he’ll call you eventually. But in the meantime, his doctor recommended I don’t fight based on my age, consecutive TKO losses, my layoff, and my record, which sounds fugazi.”

Well, Edgar’s disappointment over not returning to combat sports since 2022 is totally understandable. However, it’s also worth noting that he’s 44 years old, and a sport like BKFC can get pretty wild with all those devastating punches flying around. So, who knows? If he decides to fight bare-knuckle, it might actually affect him in the long run as well.
That said, do you think BKFC is on its way to becoming the next big promotion in combat sports after the UFC? Let us know in the comments below.
