In the world of MMA, there’s a cherished love story that has both withstood time and controversies—the tale of Dee Devlin and Conor McGregor. The former dual-weight champion had her when he had nothing, and she stuck around through every thin and thick time. Nonetheless, their story is a classic rags-to-riches tale, with a tad bit of romance added in.

It’s only natural that such a long love story would lead to possessiveness between them. The exact same thing happened when Chael Sonnen asked McGregor about Devlin’s name. The UFC Hall of Famer in his latest escapade explained the situation of how he was embarrassed when he asked about Devlin. Here’s the full story!

The unexpected exchange between Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen

Back when Conor McGregor was in his prime, he was in the period of transitioning from being a nobody to becoming the first dual-weight champion of the world. The UFC was fully invested in him, especially as he was about to face one of the biggest opponents of his life, Jose Aldo. And former UFC fighter and UFC Hall of Famer, Chael Sonnen, had traveled to England to interview him.

Sonnen was supposed to interview McGregor about how he was going to defeat his upcoming opponents, making conversation, amidst the interview McGregor’s fiancee, Dee Devlin walked to McGregor and left. Well, Sonnen’s first response to Conor McGregor was to ask her name to which the former dual-weight champion responded with a puzzled “What”. Chael Sonnen revealed this exchange in his latest escapade on ESPN’s ‘Good Guy/ Bad Guy’ while having a conversation with lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

“So I went out to Bristol for an interview with Conor. It happened to be the day he got the call that Aldo was out and Mendes was in. Anyway, I’m face to face with McGregor, we’re all miked up, cameras rolling, and his fiancée was there. I had just met her, but her name went by too fast for me to catch. So, in the Octagon, I leaned in and whispered to Conor, “Hey, what’s your fiancée’s name?” He goes “What?,” said Sonnen

He further added, “Uh-oh. So, I go the exact same way, “Hey, what’s your fiancée’s name?” Again, he goes “What?” Now, we’re face to face. So,  for the third time, I asked, “What’s your fiancée’s name?” He finally replied, “Dee,” and then turned and walked away. I don’t know where that was going to go.” Well, the conversation was embarrassing for the UFC fighter but he did it anyway, however, what McGregor did after the exchange was gold for Chael Sonnen.

After the exchange between Conor McGregor and Chael Sonnen, ‘The American Gangster’ proceeded with the interview in his usual manner. However, McGregor seemed unable to let go of the fact that Sonnen had asked about his wife. When Sonnen asked if he was going to face Chad Mendes then, he said that he would try to subdue him through Jeet Kune Do and suddenly he did a Jeet Kune Do move on Sonnen but stopped when he reached the chin.

I said, and Conor[McGregor], what are you going to do with Mendes, who’s his brand new opponent? Well, I might go jeet kune do. B-B-BOM [He stops right at my jugular.] I was so impressed, I was so impressed with how fast he moved in his Bruce Lee style and that he could stop with the Death Punch. Then he says, or I might have to… [He goes into a whole another style and he throws a kick and it’s two more punches but also stops right at throat.] I just remember feeling him,” said Chael Sonnen.

Sonenn further added that he had to say this as his upcoming match against Michael Chandler would be monumental for Conor Mcgregor. Nonetheless, what are your thoughts on the exchange? State your thoughts in the comments below.
