We have just over a month left to see the megastar, Conor McGregor, make his much-awaited and impending return to the Octagon. For three years, there were doubts about him even considering a return. However, in the wake of the Michael Chandler fight announcement, speculations have emerged about his next fight as well. It seems like he could be in Dana White‘s plans for a fight at UFC 306.
Dana White is planning to drop the jaws of the combat sports world by putting on the “greatest live combat sports show” ever. And what could be better than having his greatest star on the card? If the rumors are true about Conor McGregor fighting in the $2.3 billion-worth Sphere, let us take a look at the possible opponents he could throw down some fists with at UFC 306.

Isn’t that the most obvious choice? A showdown for the third and possibly the last time between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. These two icons of the MMA world were the focal point of the UFC during the 2010s. In addition to that, both of their fights, where McGregor and Diaz traded a win each, were monstrous financial successes and are still two of the biggest fights that Dana White and his matchmakers have ever put forward for the fans. Besides, both fighters have already claimed to want to perform at the venue established by the MSG group.
Before Dana White even made the return date of Conor McGregor official, ‘The Notorious’ had mentioned that he had informed the UFC about his ideal plans – fighting Michael Chandler in June, which is going to happen anyway, and Nate Diaz in September at the Sphere. Similarly, the Stockton native also claimed to be interested in UFC 306 when he was asked about an appearance on UFC 300, which did not happen.
If Diaz can’t be the opponent, McGregor might have another rival, who holds a title that the Irishman claimed to have wanted earlier, the BMF champion Max Holloway.
Max Holloway vs. Conor McGregor 2 for the BMF belt in ‘The Sphere’?
Just last year, Conor McGregor laid out a three-fight plan, which included going for the then-BMF champion, Justin Gaethje. But after the title changed hands at UFC 300, a fight against Max Holloway for the belt could also be up for ‘The Notorious’ to consider. The duo had met once before during the early stages of their UFC career, where ‘Blessed’ gave McGregor a run for his money, but suffered a decision defeat.
If that’s not all, even Max Holloway thinks that battling Conor McGregor in a rematch could become a reality because now he’s stopped all his outside-the-Octagon business and resumed his fighting career. As such, he believes that the rematch could be a huge fight, for not only ‘Blessed’ but also for the UFC fans.
With that said, there is another rival who has been very vocal about wanting to get his hands on the fattest paycheck yet by fighting McGregor, and that’s none other than the former lightweight champion and Brazil’s own, Charles Oliveira.

Charles Oliveira has been wanting to fight ‘Mystic Mac’ for a long time
UFC 300 wasn’t a great experience for the Brazilian former lightweight champion. He lost the chance to fight for the title after succumbing to a majority decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan. Even Islam Makhachev is no longer interested in rematches. So what should ‘Do Bronxs’ do? Well, Charles Oliveira has his eyes fixated on Conor McGregor, which is not a big surprise, to be honest. His coach, Diego Lima, also echoed that same sentiment when he had an interview with MMA Fighting as he mentioned, “It would be great to fight McGregor.”
Conor McGregor also had an apparent interest in taking on Charles Oliveira, which was a claim made by his coach. They had a conversation through DMs and ‘The Notorious’ wanted the Brazilian to wait for a little. However, Oliveira’s team was skeptical about it because, at that time, there were still no signs as to when he’d return. Hence, ‘Do Bronxs’ did not want to gamble by waiting for the ‘red panty night’.
