Fans are expecting a massive fight as the main event for the UFC 300 anniversary card. The UFC puts on the biggest show for its century cards as it did at UFC 100 and 200, and the upcoming UFC 300 in April is similarly expected to feature a bout that would shock and awe fans.

There was buzz that Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad for the welterweight title may be the main event, but there is consensus among fans and analysts that this fight is not big enough to headline UFC 300. Additionally, Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler has also been floated as a top contender for the main event of the card. Amid continued speculations around the main event, UFC star Renato Moicano gave his take on the subject.

Coming off a unanimous decision victory over Drew Dober at UFC Vegas 85, Renato Moicano spoke to the Schmo on the latter’s YouTube channel. During their conversation, the interviewer asked the lightweight about his views on the UFC 300 main event.

Moicano felt that Alex Pereira or even Conor McGregor should feature on the card. The Brazilian started off by giving McGregor credit for having “changed the game” and insisted he needed to be respected despite not being active or ranked in the UFC for some time.

“And even McGregor, I think McGregor of course, we have to respect. The man change the sport. Yesterday I was saying on Twitter too, you know, I used to hate McGregor… but you have to respect the man. He completely changed the game and he’s still one of the stars they have, the same proportion of Anderson Silva, Jon Jones on the prime even though he’s not on his prime,” he said.

However, despite this, he felt that Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler was “not good” enough to headline UFC 300. “Even though I think he’s not even competitive on the top five, he’s still a star the biggest name on the sport. but let me tell something I don’t want to have on UFC 300 against Michael Chandler. That fight’s not good,” he added.

This is not the first time Moicano has expressed concerns about UFC 300. The Brazilian had taken to Twitter to voice his concerns for the event. However, it seems his concerns about McGregor possibly headlining the April card are unfounded.

Dana White says McGregor is not ready to fight in June

Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler appeared as rival coaches on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter last year. They were slated to fight in December 2023, but their bout was shelved due to various reasons. McGregor announced on New Year’s Eve last year that he would be fighting Michael Chandler in a middleweight bout at UFC 302 on June 29 this year. However, Dana White denied this soon after, telling reporters McGregor was not ready to fight in June.

Given this fact, it seems extremely unlikely that the Irishman would be fighting in April when the UFC doesn’t think he would be ready in June, two months later. There have been rumors of Israel Adesanya having a trilogy fight against 205-champion Alex Pereira in the UFC 300 main event, as well as ‘Izzy’ facing Dricus Du Plessis for the middleweight title. Regardless, there is no clear candidate for the UFC 300 main event fight, and everything is speculation at this point. Which fight would you like to see as the UFC 300 main event?
