Conor McGregor is the biggest modern star in the UFC. However, there have been people perhaps more influential than him in the MMA space; Royce Gracie being one of them. The winner of the first UFC tournament, a living legend, recently gave his thoughts about the return of the modern-day great- ‘The Notorious’.

The 34-year-old Dublin-based athlete has been out of active competition since his last bout with lightweight standout Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. However, his coach’s recent comments have offered that he’s back to full training. Thus, a return is around the corner.

Praising the leader of modern MMA and labeling him as a ‘good fighter’, the MMA pioneer said, “Conor McGregor can put up a show… He knows strategy.”

The BJJ ace added, “Sometimes he wins fast, and sometimes he loses… but hey if you’ve never lost, you’ve never fought.”

Gracie knows the fight game has strengthened its core in all aspects. Thus, taking that into consideration, he dissected what fighters of today need. He said, “it’s a fighter against a fighter and who has the best strategy, so anything can happen.”

Conor McGregor definitely has ‘strategy’ in his game. The Irish striker has submitted no fighter inside the Octagon. Yet he has shown that his striking prowess was enough for him to bag a double championship in the promotion.

Royce Gracie also spoke about Conor McGregor right after UFC 264

The Brazilian legend never counted out McGregor after the freak injury at UFC 264. Talking to Fight Hub TV about the Irishman’s injury, Gracie had given his thought about why the biggest UFC star will make a comeback.

“If he have that fire inside of him, he will come back,” Gracie offered in 2021.
