The saga between Conor McGregor and Paul Hughes continues as ‘The Notorious’ keeps taking shots at the PFL fighter on social media following the leaked chat between the 27-year-old and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Now, the former UFC double champion has shared another message where he snubbed Hughes to support another fellow Irish MMA fighter.

Yes, Conor McGregor has taken back the support he gave Paul Hughes before his title fight loss to Usman Nurmagomedov. Instead, he spoke highly about Bellator’s female fighter, Sinead Kavanagh. Hailing from the same gym as ‘The Notorious’ – Straight Blast Gym – Kavanagh has always had the support of McGregor, and in his recent Instagram story, the former UFC champion promised his unwavering support for her forever.

“Happy birthday [Sinead Kavanagh] the real deal! I’ll have your back for life,” wrote Conor McGregor while sharing a picture of him cornering Sinead Kavanagh in one of her old fights. The 38-year-old veteran also backed the Irish megastar amidst his beef with Paul Hughes, calling him a “weasel & Turn coat” in a post on X.

But has this withdrawal of support from the biggest star of his country for another fighter negatively affected Paul Hughes? Well, it doesn’t seem like it has because, in a recent interview, he opened up on the whole situation, and claimed that all the things that have been happening between him and Conor McGregor are just “sad.” Here’s what he had to say.

Paul Hughes’ reaction to Conor McGregor’s insults

Understandably, Paul Hughes is disappointed in the way Conor McGregor demeaned him in a series of tweets and posts on social media. He even took issue with the fact that ‘The Notorious’ questioned his Irish heritage. While claiming that he isn’t looking for any kind of apology from McGregor, Hughes also claimed that he didn’t take his words personally because he believes that’s just the way McGregor is.

“I wasn’t offended at all. A lot of people in Ireland, especially in the North of Ireland, couldn’t be any more deeply offended by the things he said. I’m not actually offended,” Paul Hughes told Ariel Helwani. “It just seems like it’s another day in his life… I don’t hold weight to his opinion anymore as to these sorts of things. It’s kind of a sad thing to say that, but that’s actually just a reality of how I felt.”

As far as the current scenario goes, it doesn’t look like things will be getting better between Conor McGregor and Paul Hughes. It remains to be seen if, down the line, the two reconcile with each other to carry the Irish flag forward in mixed martial arts.
