Joe Rogan is undoubtedly one of the most noted faces of the UFC. Rogan also has a keen interest in other combat sports happening all around the world. He often talks about his favorites of other combat sports apart from the UFC. On a two-month-old episode of his podcast, ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’, Rogan was all praises for the noted American submission grappler Gordon Ryan. In September 2022, Ryan went on to dethrone André Galvão to become the first wrestler in ADCC history to win titles in all three of his weight divisions.

Rogan even compared him to the BJJ Legend, Rickson Gracie at his peak. However, Conor McGregor’s former teammate and current Bellator star Dillon Danis wasn’t too appreciative of Joe Rogan praising Gordon Ryan.

Dillon Danis targeted Joe Rogan’s Instagram post

Joe Rogan took to Instagram to post about the recent trend of gluing hands to precious paintings. This was done in order to raise climate change awareness. Evidently, the former Fear Factor host was not impressed by this trend. He captioned his post, This trend is so stupid that it makes me want to burn tires and boil the ocean”.

It was evident that Danis wasn’t over his old scuffle with Gordon Ryan, which started back in their matchup in the ADCC World Grappling Championships.

Ryan was awarded a victory over Danis via decision in the bout. But Danis was unaccepting of this decision. This has been the reason for the feud build up between the two over years. In these situations, a noted figure like Joe Rogan providing such heavy compliments to Ryan was too much for Danis to accept.

Dillon Danis and Gordon Ryan have fired at each other over the years

Since their bout in 2017, both the noted names in grappling have gone on to deride each other. Danis faced the press in a 2019 interview, where he stated, “I’m an all-natural athlete, I’m not like these guys taking their special orange juice. I 100% think this is a problem. Gordon wouldn’t be able to compete if there was steroid test or any drug test“.

Ryan replied to his adversary, narrating a story on his Instagram about how Danis had begged for $20 from him.

He also wrote, “I just laughed and pulled out my camera, told him to smile so I could post about him on social media. This is the pose he gave me. Strange times in NYC“.

My interest in combat sports began watching scripted pro wrestling shows. It was my father who directed me towards combat sports and it wasn’t until the late 2010s that I discovered the world of MMA and the UFC. Like many of you, I too, tuned in for the infamous Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor bout live on October 6, 2018. Being an ardent fan of the UFC (and Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier), I was always looking to have conversations about the same with others. But to my disappointment, I hardly found any followers of the sports to interact with. So I took it upon myself to do my part in popularizing the thrill and the agony behind the purest form of unarmed combat. At EssentiallySports, I try to bring the readers closer to the athletes and focus my coverage on exploring the human side of these martial artists. I’m a musician during my time free from reporting MMA. I operate as the lead vocalist of a rock band that aims to make their mark among the audiences with their original alternative-hard rock songs.
