Conor McGregor has fallen far from the halcyon days of being double-champion and taking the sport to new heights. Today, the Irishman is sitting on an injury and consecutive losses, having fought only four times in the past six years, losing all but one of them.

Just how far he has fallen was encapsulated perfectly by former Bellator champion Ben Askren on his ‘Funky and the Champ’ podcast with Daniel Cormier. The two were discussing the UFC’s rumored move of adding two more divisions to the promotion.

Askren thinks Conor McGregor hasn’t fought anyone good since 2016
After Dana White denied that Conor McGregor will take on Michael Chandler on June 29, as ‘Notorious’ had announced, ‘Mac’ floated a UFC 300 fixture instead. And there have been rumors that the UFC is looking to dissolve its 170-pound welterweight division to be replaced by two new weight classes at 165 pounds and 175 pounds.
While discussing this, Daniel Cormier and Ben Askren had a healthy disagreement after Askren made a bold claim about Conor McGregor’s resume. The former Bellator champion claimed that McGregor had not beaten “anyone meaningful” since Barack Obama was President back in 2016. This, he felt, should make McGregor ineligible to contest for a 165-pound title if the rumors turn out to be true

“Conor McGregor hasn’t beaten anyone meaningful since 2016, Daniel. We’re in 2024, the last time Conor McGregor beat anyone else meaningful, Barack Obama was President,” Askren said.

‘DC’, however, disagreed, and felt none of this mattered and that this was not relevant to McGregor contending for the title, and gave the example of former champions Cris Cyborg and Demetrious Johnson as a counter. “You’re giving me facts that really don’t matter whereas I’m giving you facts that actually can show you why it works.” Cormier replied. And as uncertainty around his comeback persists, McGregor is set to make his big screen debut next month.

Conor McGregor’s debut film set for March 2021 release
Conor McGregor is starring in the 2024 remake of the eighties action classic, Road House along side Jake Gyllenhaal. Scheduled for a March 21 release on Amazon Prime Video, this will be ‘Mac’s debut film. McGregor was prominently featured in the recently released trailer for the film and will be playing the character of ‘Knox’ in the film.

The film will see Gyllenhaal play an ex-UFC fighter who moves to the Florida Keys and becomes a bouncer there. He soon realizes, however, that everything is not as it seems. Based upon the trailer, ‘Notorious’ will be playing an antagonist to Gyllenhaal’s ‘Dalton’. What do you think about Conor McGregor’s foray into acting?
