The Irishman’s recuperation seemed to be progressing well, and he appeared to be recovering faster than predicted. However, it no longer appears to be the case, from recent reports. ‘The Notorious’ might not return to fighting until the start of next year.

In a recent episode of the MMA Hour, renowned MMA reporter Ariel Helwani confirmed that McGregor’s return will be next year. He said, “last I heard, by the way, Conor could come back in February, March or so. It doesn’t look like he’s coming back in 2022… The last I heard was early 2023. There’s no rush here, as there shouldn’t be a rush because he’s coming back from such a gruesome and serious injury.”

There have been rumors that McGregor would take on Chandler this year. But fans can rather expect a showdown between Jorge Masvidal and Conor McGregor on his return. Masvidal’s ATT coach also proposed the bout, saying, “it would make sense“. Helwani agreed with coach James Brown and stated that it was the fight to make for the UFC.

“I have said that this was the fight to make, honestly, till Masvidal lost to Colby… Name me another one that makes sense. In terms of star power in terms of where they’re at in their career. Of course, you can mention chandler, but it doesn’t seem like Conor wants to fight at 155,” claimed Helwani.
