UFC Vegas 60 saw two brilliant bantamweights scrap it out at the center of the Octagon. The fourth-ranked, Cory Sandhagen, took on China’s Song Yadong in the main event of the evening.

Both fighters entered the fight with massive hype surrounding them. Yadong came in riding a three-fight win streak, Sandhagen, on the other hand, was on a two-fight losing skid.

The fight saw both fighters indulge in a technical brawl with almost similar numbers. To many’s surprise, Sandhagen consistently shot takedowns.

Daniel Cormier, who was on the commentary team, stated that the reason why ‘The Sandman’ is constantly shooting is that he wants to “interrupt” Yadong’s pressure. DC said, “he interrupts Son Yadong’s pressure by shooting shots”

In the second round, the American landed a slick step-in elbow that opened a massive cut right above Yadong’s left eye. At the beginning of the third, the doctor checked Sadong and let the Chinese fighter continue.

However, as the fight progressed, the cut kept opening drastically, moreover Yadong’s eye kept on swelling as well. By the end of the fourth round, the commentary booth was pretty sure that the fight would be stopped.

Paul Felder said, “that’s bad DC”. While Cormier on the other hand said, “that’s bad, they’re going to stop it”

The doctor came in and, upon monitoring the cut, told the referee that he wasn’t feeling good about the cut. Listening to the doctor, Herb Dean immediately called off the fight.

Sandhagen fell on his knee in shock and Yadong approached to congratulate him while also letting him know that he [Song Yadong] could not see anything off of his left eye. Thus, Sandhagen was announced victorious via TKO.

Former champion and current first-rank bantamweight, Petr Yan congratulated Sandhagen, saying, “Congrats to @corysandhage Good win against tough opponent”

Furthermore, many fans are calling for bantamweight contender Marlon Vera to face either of the two fighters to determine the next title challenger
