UFC welterweight star Court McGee got what very few people get- a second life. The Utah native, before becoming a mixed martial artist, overdosed and was legally declared dead for about eight minutes when he was barely 21. After he was resuscitated, he was so shaken at his literal (albeit temporary) death that he resolved to turn things around.

And while his training and martial arts journey could be attributed to this resolve, and has been integral in him helping quit. This resolution is precisely what led him to win season eleven of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’, but nothing has been more important in this journey than his wife and kids.

Apart from breaking faces in the Octagon, Court McGee is also a happily married man. The Ogden native’s wife is named Chelsea McGee and while it is unknown how long they have been together, the couple have three children together. While details about their courtship and wedding remain private, the couple has been together for a significant period.

Chelse briefly explored the world of fitness influencing, launching an Instagram page called ‘runwithchels’ in September 2023. However, her focus shifted quickly towards the avenue of motherhood and she hasn’t posted on that page since October of last year.  She is now fully committed to raising her three children and supporting her husband’s MMA career.

While McGee prefers to keep his life private, the couple’s second child is named Crew Charles McGee. The boy has a middle name that honors Chuck Liddell whose real name is Charles David Liddel. This is because McGee’s triumphant season on The Ultimate Fighter had ‘The Iceman’ as his coach. McGee’s journey to success has been marked by a will to survive and exercise his demons to achieve greater things in life.

A deeper look into Court McGee’s early life and struggles

McGee was always inclined towards the world of combat sports. The Utah native was a wrestler in high school and also picked up some karate on the way. And by picked up we mean that he was fully committed to the cause and his sincerity has earned him a red stripe black belt in the discipline despite limited tournament experience.

After graduating high school, ‘The Crusher’ enrolled at Weber State University, However, academic pursuits did not align with his interests, and he soon dropped out. Unfortunately, his life took a tragic turn shortly after leaving college. An injury derailed his momentum and led to a radical dependence on painkillers. This eventually escalated into a dangerous addiction to substances like heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine. McGee’s struggle with addiction ultimately culminated in a near-fatal overdose in 2005. ,

Like a phoenix, McGee rose from the ashes and went on to win not only ‘TUF’ but also found a way to use his experiences to assist others in their battle against similar ailments. McGee founded the ‘Hope 361 Project’ in 2006 and ‘The McGee Project’ in 2015 to give addicts a support group and help them kick their addiction.

He regularly speaks at schools, prisons, and youth detention centers, sharing his personal experiences and offering valuable guidance. Throughout this journey, his wife has been a pillar of support and has played a crucial role in his life. His life serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
