There is a new strawweight contender in town and she’s gunning for the champ! At UFC Vegas 94, Virna Jandiroba made a statement with her incredible submission victory over Amanda Lemos. The fight began with Jandiroba shooting for a takedown and Lemos responding with a guillotine attempt. However, Jandiroba’s grappling credentials kept her safe and maintained her top position. But in a scramble afterward, Lemos managed to reverse positions and get on top instead.

In the second round, Lemos was wary of the takedown attempts, maintained her distance, and looked for her strikes. But Jandiroba was able to impose her game plan and locked in a body-triangle after another scramble. It appeared as though Jandiroba was going for a choke but as Lemos defended, she quickly transitioned into an armbar that forced Lemos to tap out.

After the win, Jandiroba took to the mic to announce her intentions for the future! “Dana, I’m the next champion…” were her words before enjoying her hard-fought win with a celebratory dance during the post-fight interview. The champion of the strawweight division, Weili Zhang, was also put on notice by the Brazilian as she proclaimed, “Weili… let’s go!”.
