Jiri Prochazka will take on Alex Pereira at UFC 295 for the lightweight title he once held as a champion. The Czech fighter relinquished the title in 2022 due to a severe injury. He was set to defend his belt in a rematch with Glover Teixeira at UFC 282 but the injury derailed the event. UFC CEO Dana White had stated that it was “the worst shoulder injury” in UFC history.

The fight against Pereira will now be the main event for UFC 295 after Jon Jones withdrew from his fight against Stipe Miocic due to a pectoral tendon tear. Prochazka has stated that he will be fully focused on regaining his belt. And despite Dana White and the UFC’s treatment of him, he revealed that his mindset is to ignore the static and focus only on the task in front of him on Saturday!

Jiri Prochazka made his UFC debut in 2020 at UFC 251. He quickly cemented himself as a must-watch for fans due to his wild fighting style. Prochazka made his name in the light heavyweight division with impressive knockout victories over Volkan Oezdemir and Dominic Reyes. The wins led him to a title shot against Glover Teixeira at UFC 275 where he finished the veteran via submission to secure the UFC light heavyweight title.

But his reign was cut short due to the shoulder injury he sustained while training for a rematch with Teixeira. Prochazka chose to relinquish the title and step away from competition to focus on his recovery. Jamahal Hill then claimed the vacant title but had to relinquish it due to an Achilles tendon injury.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Prochazka was questioned about the UFC’s decision to still list Jamahal Hill as the light heavyweight champion on its website. A concession that wasn’t made for Prochazka when he vacated the title first. In the conversation with Helwani, Jiri Prochazka addresses the UFC and Dana White’s treatment of his title reign. He stated, “There will be a new champion this Saturday and for me, nothing changed, from my last fight “

When asked if he still considers himself the true champion despite the UFC’s decisions, Prochazka asserted, “ I’m thinking I have to take it like that, that’s my mindset to direct it for this feeling to show who’s the champion and that’s it.” His incredible fortitude and resilience would definitely be put to the test at UFC 295 against ‘Poatan’. Alex Pereira has also come out to state his motivation for this matchup!

‘Poatan’ claims fight against Prochazka not motivated by ‘revenge’

Pereira, the former UFC middleweight champion, saw his title reign cut short after a loss to rival Israel Adesanya in his first title defense. Following a victory over former champion Jan Blachowicz, Pereira is now set to compete for the vacant title at UFC 295 against Jiri Prochazka. Prochazka had previously dethroned Pereira’s mentor and coach, Glover Teixeira, creating an intriguing story element in their upcoming bout.
