Khamzat Chimaev vs. Paulo Costa has been made to look like a fight of the ages. Or so believes a veteran former fighter of the UFC. Chimaev and Costa have recently started beefing more and more and one can see why. The fight between the two has been promised for months now and it’s going to happen this very month. But how far did the UFC go to make it happen?

According to an insider, Dana White and Co. knew they wanted this fight badly. That’s why they planted the seeds for it months ago. Even at the cost of compromising one big fight at the last minute. Now, the fight is days away and we’re finding out the respect around the battle. So what’s the story?

UFC veteran stunned by respect shown to co-main at UFC 294

Chael Sonnen is well known for his usual analysis video. There’s usually a fair blend of analyzing and speculating outcomes whenever he takes to his YouTube channel. He recently uploaded a video all about the Khamzat Chimaev vs. Paulo Costa fight. He went through his concerns about how the fight doesn’t have any backups and also discussed what would happen to the loser.

When Sonnen was done exploring the possibilities of the fight happening and with the idea of a winner getting to the title, he brought up an interesting point. He told his viewers how he hadn’t seen preparation like this fight ever before. In fact, he seemed pleasantly surprised with everything.

“The way that this fight got here the fact that it was announced over 6 months ago for a co-main fight,” started Sonnen. “The fact that we’ve all known this is the one for number one contendership . . . the fact that Paulo Costa was pulled off of a Salt Lake card, interrupted a promised card to preserve him for this match, and now the fact that they will be there a total of 7 and 1/2 weeks early in the hotel doing their training camp. There that is a respect that I have never heard of paid to any athlete to any fight. That is a respect that is not being shown and paid to the main event world championship fight.”

This isn’t the first time Sonnen has spoken about the weight of the upcoming fight. In fact, he’s been speaking about it on his channel since day 1. The veteran has previously shown concern about how the fight seems bigger than the main event. Which is why it would be a real tragedy if it didn’t go through comprehensively. Thankfully, it looks like everything is working smoothly for the co-main to be a raging success.

What was Sonnen’s prediction about the loser of the Khamzat Chimaev fight?

Sonnen has talked about the importance of this fight and so it was obvious that he had to mention the stakes. The fight could give us our next contender for the title. However, the loser of the two could face grave consequences if Sonnen is to be believed.

He believes that the loser will be put out of the title run for a while. Even two to three years could pass by before the losing fighter gets a shot just to win the title.
