The fight card is set and the champion is ready to defend with a brand-new belt on the line. Alexa Grasso became the first-ever Mexican woman to win a UFC championship when she tore apart Valentina Shevchenko on March 4. Now, with the Mexican Independence Day looming overhead, will the champion continue to reign supreme?
Some still consider Grasso an underdog champion, but her career speaks for itself. With 16 out of 19 wins, she packs quite a punch. This is especially true now because the UFC has custom-designed a brilliant new belt for her to defend. Recently, Dana White unveiled the brand-new UFC Noche belt, and calling it an absolute showstopper would be an understatement.

There’s a surge of fans looking for more belts like this in the UFC. It may not be as obvious, but the fans love anything custom. Imagine your favorite fighter having their own custom belt on their shoulder as they celebrate a knockout. No other feeling quite like it. So it’s no wonder some fans demanded the new belt be given to someone else instead.

Alexa Grasso has proved her mettle against Shevchenko before. Maybe the belt has more to do with her resilience than anything else, but that didn’t stop fans from being their mischievous selves.
There were a few Shevchenko supporters in the comment section who rooted for her one way or another. Surprisingly though, fans of the Bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley also showed up calling it a “Suga Belt.” It probably has to do with the colors O’Malley associates with.

Either way, it looks like for now, the only one getting her hands on this belt is the rightful champ, Alexa Grasso. This may change in the days to come as she prepares to go toe-to-toe with Shevchenko in the rematch. The first time around, Grasso took the win with a face-crank, forcing ‘Bullet Valentina’ to tap out. Will this time be any different? We’ll find out on September the 16th.
