For years, Dillon Danis has been kept off the UFC octagon for one plain reason. Even after he scored the tap in just 15 seconds against Frank Warren at Misfits 22 earlier this year, his case was dismissed: he doesn’t have the level of professionalism required for UFC, the analysts said. And here we are.

For the second time since 2018, Danis has gotten himself involved in a cageside fight with the very same group. Following the incident, head honcho Dana White couldn’t help but blame himself for not predicting it sooner. “I blame myself, actually,” he said during the post-fight interview. “They came back and told me right before I walked out to the main card. Dillon Danis was here, moving around, sitting on the fighters’ seat instead of his own, even though he had his own ticket. They asked if I wanted them to throw him out, and I said he has a ticket.
“It never crossed my mind that this kid, with the entire Muslim Brotherhood sitting in the first five rows for Islam Makhachev, would cause an issue. As soon as the breakout happened, I was there and thought, ‘F—, I know exactly what that is’. And yeah, you will probably never see Dillon Danis at the UFC right now.”

The controversy erupted amid Islam Makhachev’s historic triumph at UFC 322. Before capturing his second belt and becoming the reigning welterweight champion against Jack Della Maddalena, a brawl broke out between the MMA star and Team Makhachev, evoking memories of UFC 229.
As commentators had anticipated, soon enough, a massive scuffle broke out in the crowd involving multiple individuals. Eventually, security had to intervene, separating Dillon Danis and Makhachev’s teammate Magomed Zaynikov, aka ‘John Pork.’
El Jefe had previously clashed with the team during UFC 229, when his training partner, Conor McGregor, had submitted to Makhachev’s longtime teammate, Abubakar Nurmagomedov. Following his win, Nurmagomedov jumped out of the cage into the stands where Danis was seated on McGregor’s corner. A brawl broke out, and obscenities were exchanged until Danis was physically held back.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission addressed the issue by suspending Danis and McGregor for seven months while also fining them $7,500. He was also removed from the building during UFC 268 in November 2021 after getting into an altercation with MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz. That is precisely why White and COO Hunter Campbell have been skeptical about letting him join the promotion.

White is determined to avoid controversy, and El Jefe knows as much. “Dana was like, ‘You’re a liability,’” Danis told MMA Fighting in August. “That’s why this week, I’m keeping it calm, showing them. And Hunter was like, ‘Just go and show [you can stay calm].’”

Now, following the incident at UFC 322, Dillon Danis has become the subject of ridicule, with Hendu Vcejkudo recently taking a dig at him.

Despite being 32 years old, Dillon Danis’s MMA career has never progressed as quickly as he hoped, largely due to his controversial image, which made promotions hesitant to sign him. After briefly retiring from the sport, Danis returned in August, earning a win over Warren Spencer at the Misfit Boxing event. He is now scheduled to fight Anthony Taylor in December.
With UFC 322 generating hype this week,’ El Jefe’ tried to stay relevant by taking aim at Islam Makhachev and Jorge Masvidal. During his latest outing against Demetrious Johns last month, he said, “Everybody knows where to find me, everybody knows who I am. This is the real 170-pound belt. Islam’s not the champ, JDM is, but Islam will be the champ. And I want a champion vs. champion fight, me vs. Islam, so I can get my revenge, storyline finished, that’s what I want.”

However, his recent antics have likely ruined any chance of ever competing in the UFC. Henry Cejudo mocked him on social media, writing, “Dillon Danis got TKOed at MSG tonight and he wasn’t even on the card.” Meanwhile, after his latest antics fell flat, many are left questioning his approach.
