

Dana White’s PowerSlap has taken the combat sports world by storm. The first episode of ‘Road to the Title’ showed some devastating displays of slap-fighting. However, there were many concerns regarding this new sport. Many people questioned the risk of bodily harm this sport can inflict on the athlete. PowerSlap President Frank Lamicella recently appeared in an interview where he gave a few inside details about the way fighters are assessed. Frank Lamicella mentioned that every sport has risks involved. Athletes can succumb to various kinds of injuries. He assured that the slap-fighters are well-informed about the consequences.

The PowerSlap president also talked about the medical criteria for fighters as well. He touched upon the topic of drug testing. “These guys know the risks. They are told about the risks ahead of time,” said Lamicella. He also assured that nobody is forced to engage in the competition unless they want to.
Frank Lamicella assures PowerSlap fighters are drug-tested
Frank Lamicella reiterated the various stages of getting a promotion started. He stated that getting PowerSlap regulated was the first step toward a successful promotion. “No one can get up there without a clean bill of health.” He added, “They [the fighters] have to go through extensive medical tests and to even step on the stage, drug testing by Nevada State Athletic Commission.” Lamicella also mentioned that emergency medical units are available at all times during bouts.

The 33-year-old attorney also mentioned that athletes have to go through certain medical tests after the fight is over. “After the match, everyone is examined, and there are mandatory suspensions if you get injured, so you can’t practice or take a shot or even participate in a match for a certain period of time.”
Frank Lamicella also stated that they are following the same protocol for PowerSlap just like the UFC. “We’re doing all the same things that we do in UFC t…the UFC track record speaks for itself, you know.”

There are people who don’t believe that slap-fighting is a real sport. But Lamicella has mentioned that their fighters absolutely feel like it is a real sport.
