Paddy Pimblett, the hottest UFC lightweight prospect, is often compared with the pay-per-view star of the promotion Conor McGregor because of a similar rise in the division.

Since his debut in the promotion in 2021, ‘The Baddy’ has gone unbeaten. Along with that, his incredible performances and charming attitude have captured the hearts of UFC fans.

The British fighter has established a sizable fan base, and many think that, after ‘The Notorious,’ he will be the UFC’s next big pay-per-view draw. Interestingly, the 27-year-old also believes the same.

“Absolutely yes. There was Brock Lesnar, there was Ronda Rousey. There was Conor McGregor. Now, there’s Paddy “The Baddy”. That simple. Other fighters on the roster just aren’t authentic. Like they haven’t got any personality,” Pimblett told DAZN when asked about his position in the company.

Although ‘The Baddy’ appears to be the future of the UFC, president Dana White is concerned about his weight-cut antics. The former Cage Warriors champion is infamous for gaining immense weight when not preparing for his fights. Pimblett recently admitted having gained over 200 pounds after his last UFC bout.

While talking about Pimblett’s weight gain theatrics, White stated it affects short-notice matchmaking for the Brit fighter. He said, “It makes it tough for us too, because when we’re in the matchmaking room, we want to throw together a fight, maybe we can throw him on a card in a month, a month-and-a-half, it hurts us too. We have to be very specific when we plan fights for him. Because he’s nowhere near close to weight. And what you don’t want to do is put that kind of pressure to cut that much weight in that short amount of time.”

Conor McGregor and Paddy Pimblett’s comparison

The 27-year-old British fighter is without a doubt the total package, possessing both a charismatic personality and incredible fighting abilities. He still has a lot to accomplish in terms of promotion, though. So it might be unfair to draw comparisons between ‘The Baddy’ and the Irish UFC fighter.

Also, ‘The Baddy’ has yet not competed against top-tier fighters from the division. He is also yet to enter the top-15 list of lightweight fighters. Thus, it might be too soon to compare him with McGregor.

However, the British UFC fighter has won three matches thus far, all by way of a finish, and if he maintains this rate for a few more years, he may undoubtedly rank among the best UFC fighters.
