Veteran UFC commentator Joe Rogan and UFC President Dana White seem to have had a conflict over UFC judges. The recent fight at UFC 280 between Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan has raised many arguments. The judges, by a split decision, announced Sean O’Malley as the winner. A lot of fans and critics thought otherwise. According to Joe Rogan, Yan defeated O’Malley.
Split decisions have often divided fans, even in the past. Seasoned fans, critics, experts, and athletes have all shared their opinions over split decisions. Joe Rogan has been an advocate of having regular judges for every match. Rogan wants a large pool of judges who know the game and understand the nuances.

Chael Sonnen expressed his views on Yan vs O’Malley fight
Retired mixed martial artist and MMA analyst Chael Sonnen recently posted a video on his YouTube channel addressing the fight’s decision. He mentioned that there have been so many decisions in the past that make us think if there is a problem with judges in Combat sports.
The fight between Lewis and Holyfield ended in a tie. He then discussed at length what he thinks of Joe Rogan’s solution to MMA judging. He said, “I have heard Joe say this before and I don’t know ten is the magic number. They will be actual employees, they will be on a salary. These guys are gonna get a 100 grand a year, a rough number.

“I don’t love the 10-person idea. If we are deciding that three people are incompetent, I don’t see how multiplying that pool is gonna solve the problem.” Sonnen further added.
‘The American Gangster’ was clearly frustrated with the judgment. He, however, didn’t agree with Rogan’s solution. The multiple-judge pool may have efficiency and polished judges to offer. Sonnen felt it was more of a competency issue. He then said “Dana White fiercely disagrees. Dana White wants nothing to do with selecting the judges, nothing to do with paying the judges.”

Joe Rogan and Dana White have different views
Dana White has expressed his frustration over judging results multiple times. After UFC 259, he ripped his judges apart. He has accepted that UFC judging. Dana White has admitted that the UFC has and will have problems with judging. He, however, was also resigned to the fact that it likely won’t change. Petr Yan vs Sean O’Malley is an addition to the list of fights where fans felt the judging was sub-par. In the past, we have marred fights between Holly Holm vs Ketlen Vieira and Alexander Volkov vs Jairzinho Rozenstruik with controversy for unpopular split decisions. The UFC president, however, feels that many of the problems arise because of each US state’s own athletic commission.
