Alexandre Pantoja has defeated every flyweight contender in his division, and a fight against Asakura at UFC 310 would be monumental. Regardless, when the reporter asked the UFC CEO about why he gave Asakura a chance to immediately fight the champion in his debut match, Dana White stated that Kai Asakura doesn’t need to prove anyone right now.

“We are talking about the Japanese kid. He is a bad boy, you know. He isn’t a guy that needs to come in and be tested or figure out if he is one of the best in the world. We are going to find out that night if he is the best in the world. Timing plays a factor, but I think it wouldn’t have mattered when he came in. He was going to a title shot no matter who the champion was,” said Dana White.

With a record of 21 victories and just 4 defeats, Kai Asakura is riding a two-fight winning streak. The Japanese fighter was at the peak of his career when he emphasized that it was time for him to take the global belt as well. His debut fight under the promotion might have been a bit controversial but according to flyweight contender Brandon Royval, he deserves it.

Brandon Royval comes out clean on Kai Asakura’s debut title fight

Brandon Royval tried to grab the flyweight belt from Alexandre Pantoja last year back in UFC 296, however, he failed to put a dent in the Brazilian ‘Cannibal’ as he clinched the victory by way of unanimous decision. Since then, Royval has been fighting hard such that Dana White gives him another chance at the belt. His fight against another Japanese fighter Tatsuro Taira ended in his victory as he defeated him by way of a split decision.

Regardless, at the post-fight press conference, Royval was asked about his opinion on the Pantoja vs. Asakura fight, to which he said, “I’ve been watching Kai Asakura for a while, I think he’s sick. I think there’s a lot of cool things, he’s yet to make flyweight. So I’ll be there and I’ll be ready just in case he doesn’t. That being said, I’ll give the man his roses, I think he brings a lot of excitement to the division but I think if Pantoja grapples him at all it’s gonna be over.”

Well, after the victory, Royval did call out the UFC CEO Dana White to give him another shot at the belt but the UFC CEO is yet to answer his call. Regardless, whats your take on the situation in the flyweight division? State your thoughts in the comments below.
