After a frenzy of defeats, it seems like Derrick Lewis is back in action. After his embarrassing loss against Jailton Almeida in 2023 at UFC Fight Night 231, Lewis is now back on the path to victory. The former heavyweight contender defeated the rising star, Rodrigo Nascimento at UFC St. Louis in a spectacular third-round knockout. Interestingly, his knockout streak is maintained with 15 K.O. wins to his name.

With the record-setting victory, Lewis engaged in an awkward celebration that was well not known to anyone in the MMA. The classic Derrick Lewis was back in action but so was his way of celebrating. Dana White talks about Derrick Lewis’s celebration

The bout began with both fighte͏rs exchanging blow͏s. This carried on for some time, till they resorted to grappl͏ing. D͏uring the third͏ ro͏un͏d, Lewis s͏eized Nascimen͏to and ͏delivere͏d a pow͏erful p͏unch to hi͏s face, knocking him o͏ut an͏d claiming victor͏y. After winning, Lewis celebrated by stripping his shorts in front of the entire stadium and dancing above his defeated opponent.

However, this was not the end of the ‘BlackBeast’s victory celebration. The Texas native threw a cup at the media as well. Well, this was one heck of a celebration. Nonetheless, the cup finally got into the hands of media personnel who got it signed by Derrick Lewis, however, the media guy wanted the sign of another person as well and it was the CEO Dana White himself.

During the post-fight press conference, Dana White was asked about his opinion on Lewis’s act of stripping and throwing cups at the media, to which he responded.“He’s a fun exciting heavyweight who knocks people out and he’s funny,” said White. The CEO further added that he was glad that the cup didn’t hit him.

A few minutes later, a media representative who had obtained the cup asked Dana White to sign it. The CEO was skeptical at first, “I would prefer not to but you were very lucky to catch that.” However, later he agreed to sign it as the Media personnel forced him to.

Amidst the victory and celebration, Derrick Lewis also might be thinking of a retirement or a transition.

Is ‘The Black Beast’ done with the UFC?

Ahead of his fight at the UFC St. Louis, Derrick Lewis made a revelation about his career. The former heavyweight contender stated that he might be planning to make a cameo or a total transition to WWE after UFC. During the pre-fight press conference, Lewis revealed that he might venture into professional wrestling sooner or later. “Yeah, we are actually in talks right now and we’ve been talking for a few months now. I was supposed to go down there in February to check everything out,” said Lewis.

Derrick Lewis’s words may sound unserious, but after the fight, he also hinted at a potential retirement from the UFC in the near future. In a post-fight interview with Michael Bisping after securing his victory, Lewis said, “I’m getting too old for this sh*t…”
