The UFC has dominated the MMA market under Dana White’s leadership, and no promotion has come close to toppling the goliath. Currently, the company comfortably boasts its reported $23 billion net worth with no real competition in sight. However, a UFC insider believes White could soon face a new kind of rivalry as Jake Paul steps into the MMA game.

On May 16, the former UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey is scheduled to return against another famous name, Gina Carano, in a hexagon MMA fight. Both superstars are set to compete again after spending a decade away from the sport, and fans are already buzzing about the matchup. But while viewers are hyped for the fight itself, Chael Sonnen believes that’s not the biggest story. According to him, the real headline is that Jake Paul’s promotion, Most Valuable Promotions, has finally entered the MMA market.
Chael Sonnen believes Jake Paul will become Dana White’s stark competitor
The headline here is not those two “fighting.” ‘The Bad Guy’ wrote on X over Josh Thomson’s video clip, “ The breaking news is that Jake Paul is now in the MMA business,” he added.
Well, Sonnen definitely makes a point here. Jake Paul has been one of the fiercest critics of Dana White, especially when it comes to how the head honcho treats fighters. Because of that tension, ‘The Problem Child’ joined PFL to fuel that rivalry. But with that move not creating much impact, Paul’s deeper entry into the MMA business could actually disrupt the market, especially with the UFC failing to make this fight happen.
Recently, Ronda Rousey revealed that she actually pitched Dana White to fight Gina Carano in the UFC during an ESPN interview. As per ‘Rowdy’, the UFC boss did not seem interested in the matchup, and Jake Paul stepped in to seize the opportunity and finalize the fight.
So, with both female fighters being well-known superstars, MVP’s debut MMA event could draw plenty of eyeballs as fans tune in expecting strong business on Netflix. That is why Chael Sonnen issued a subtle warning to White. And soon, ‘The Bad Guy’ even found some backing.
“Chael is absolutely correct… @ginacarano & @RondaRousey deserve credit for giving the fans this fight.” Josh Thomson reposted Chael Sonnen’s post on X, “BUT Chael is 100% correct about @jakepaul entering into the MMA market with his promotion @MostVpromotions while the UFC is match making the White House card for May.”

Now, as Jake Paul’s promotion takes a massive step toward becoming potential competition for Dana White, Ronda Rousey may have also rubbed some salt on the UFC head honcho’s wound.
Ronda Rousey praises Jake Paul’s promotion for being a fighter-first
After nine years, Ronda Rousey is finally coming back to the cage to face a stellar opponent in what promises to be a spectacle. The former UFC bantamweight champion sounds ecstatic about making her return and could hardly contain her excitement. While doing so, ‘Rowdy’ also praised Most Valuable Promotions, the promotion backed by Jake Paul, calling it fighter-first, a label many fans feel does not always resonate with UFC under Dana White.
“Been waiting so long to announce this: Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest superfight in women’s combat sports history”, Rousey posted on X. She added that the event will partner with MVP as well as Netflix, calling it a massive collaboration.”
For the most part, Rousey and White have maintained a friendly relationship. Even last year, the UFC CEO said the promotion would always be her home. But since this fight is happening elsewhere, it does raise questions about whether there is a gap in that friendship. With the event getting closer, more details are likely to emerge.
